Alvera walked back and forth. Now she had to kill someone she liked. She'd been a tier higher on the system than Cortez, but never before had come to like someone. It wasn't until she had to start handling how he operated on his case that she came to like her.
Camila and Regina were deep in conversation when Isabella and Lucia came by. Lucia was super nervous.
"Everything alright Lucia?" Regina asked her daughter.
"I have to tell you something," she said quietly.
"What's up?"
"Well... I'm uh... I'm into girls..."
"I knew it! About time you came out."
"How did you know?!"
"Honey I see you hanging around girls all the time. You never seem interested in the guys. It was pretty obvious."
"Well, then did you know Alvera is gay too?"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Alvera is gay?"
"Yeah. I overheard her in the kitchen earlier saying "I wonder if she got it." Like she gave a gift to someone."
"Huh, that's strange."
"I still have a bad feeling about her though. I know she helped me and all, but something doesn't feel right," chimed Camila.
"Camila I thought we were past this," Epifanio said. "You're going to hurt yourself if you keep putting on stress."
"I'm not going to do this again with you..."
Epifanio gave her a disapproving stare. She'd already gone through enough trouble putting stress on herself. Now she was doing it all over again. The number of times they fought over her stress was incredible. No family would have fought about that as much as they have.
Camila had always been stubborn. She couldn't let it go this time. It was apparent this girl bothered her more than anything. Camila got up and walked inside, running straight into Alvera. Alvera blushed and moved out of the way.
'That was weird. She just blushed scarlet,' she thought.
Epifanio followed her in. That was all she needed. She wanted to be left alone, not followed. She turned around to face him angrily.
"I want to be left alone," she growled.
"That's the last thing I intend to do," Epifanio answered sternly. "I don't plan to let you out of my sight."
"I swear you both have the craziest emotion swings I've ever seen. Camila, you've been having bad hunches about me all this time, right?" Alvera asked.
"I uh..."
"It's okay. You have every right because... You're right. I'm supposed to kill you. I got rid of that nurse. She was my target because Cortez let himself do whatever he wanted instead of following our code."
"Why are you telling us all of this?"
"I... I like you... I know you're married but I adore the way you stand up for yourself. You have emotional beat downs every now and again, but you always act like a queen. You have to watch out for them. They're coming for you. If I fail they do it themselves. Our supreme leader... they'll find you if you don't leave."
"What about you?"
She put a gun to her head, "I'll just have to figure out what I'm going to do in hell."
"Alvera no!"
"They'll kill me either way," she smiled. "I have to. At least I was able to confess... This is goodbye..."
And with that, she pulled the trigger. She was gone. Everyone ran inside to see what happened. Epifanio told them all what happened. It only became quiet afterward.
Epifanio couldn't stop apologizing to Camila. He hadn't listened to her. They had gotten lucky this one had come out of their shell and admitted to what they were doing before they did it.
They packed their things and drove home. They went back to doing things normally. Epifanio and Camila went back to work as governors as well as Regina and Eduardo.
Several months went by and nothing happened. No threats, no violence, at least towards them, and no one seemed to be after them. The only one about to be killed at the moment was Kique Jimenez, whom Epifanio caught kissing his daughter. Camila had to hold him back from killing him.
It was all quiet. Too quiet, but it was much appreciated. Camila's father paid them visits every now and then. He still wasn't too fond of Camila and Epifanio being so close to each other when he was around. Even though he accepted Epifanio now didn't mean he wanted him to touch her all the time. Father instincts still drove him even if his daughter was old enough to make her own decisions.
Camila had just gotten her father to stop chasing Kique as well that day. He was super protective of his grandchild too. She sat down on the couch with a sigh of relief. Isabella went to her room blushing scarlet after everything.
Epifanio sat next to his wife on the couch. She looked at him and smiled. He loved that smile, her genuine one. Epifanio cupped her chin with his hand and lifted her face to his. He gently kissed her on the lips. She returned the kiss and slid her arms around his neck in return. After she just lay her head on his chest, sighing happily. Nothing could happen to them now, right? Wrong... So wrong...
As soon as that window shattered she knew it was all over. Those few months of happiness just ran out of the window.
(Wow it has been really long since I updated on this story. Sorry for keeping you all waiting all this time.)
