"Dallon? This better not be about what I think it is-"
"No no no. Brendon, nothing happened between us all week, I swear. I would never do that to you, bro. I promise," Dallon replied, slowing the accelerated pace of my heart.
"Then what is it?"
"So, ever since you introduced me to Hayley, I.... Wow, this is weird to say.... I haven't been thinking straight. You know I met Breezy and we were together for like 3 years, right?"
"Yeah...?"
"I broke up with Breezy because I just couldn't feel the same way I did for her as I did for someone else. And I know it's wrong on so many levels, but I just can't help this sort of thing...."
"What are you trying to say, Dallon?" I leaned in a little closer, intrigued by what he was about to say, and curious to know the answer.
"Brendon, I'm in love with Hayley. But before you say anything, I want to clarify that I didn't try anything with Hayley, I never have and never will. I just figured I would tell you. But you have to promise me that you won't tell her. Please?"
I leaned back in my chair and thought about it. It explained why he was the one who volunteered to stay with Hayley that night. It explained why he was the first one to follow her out the door. It explained why he saw her leave before I did. It explained why she was staying at his house. This was the only logical reasoning behind everything Dallon has done ever since he met Hayley. There was so much I missed out on because I hadn't paid any attention to the finer details.
"Brendon? Please say something...."
"I promise." Those were the only two words I could think of to say. Then I thought of a whole lot more. "But this, this secret, does not go anywhere past us, you got me? No one else can know about this."
"Yeah, no of course. No one else knows about this but you." Dallon was being dead serious with me. He clearly didn't want anyone else to know about it.
"Good. Let's keep it that way. Now, let's go back inside and see if the three of us can figure out what the hell this week was."
