The small town always set off fireworks.
Growing up Jimin would always go with his grandmother out onto the porch and watch them from a distance. As he grew up things changed, instead he began running to Jungkook's house since he lived the most 'in' town so it was best view out of the four friends. Eventually Hoseok got his drivers permit and they all begin to sneak out and "borrow" Mr. Jung's old tuck (now Hoseok's). The four discovered that spot many many years ago- the one on the hill. Although they couldn't get there without taking the longest hike of your life, so they just never did.
It was Taehyung who suggest they go back that New Year's Eve years and years ago.
He guesses they just never got around to it, or maybe Hoseok forgot. Maybe they all forgot.
They never drove there for fireworks but instead to the lake since it's where they were being set off in the first place. Their spot was secluded and everyone else parked on the other side clueless to where the teenagers hung around.
He needed a new place for fireworks this year, and he guesses Yoongi knew that.
Here he sits in the passenger seat and here he's been all day long.
"Look familiar" Yoongi smirks over to him as the two travel down the degraded gravel road. Infact, Jimin had wondering why the radio signal was clearing.
"Daegu" he whispers as he lean's his head against the passenger window with his eyes trained on the stars.
"I always drove out here with Jinnie and Joonie to watch fireworks," Yoongi admits from the driver seat, "but its been years".
That hit a little too close to home with Jimin. He gazed at the stars wondering if Taehyung and Hoseok were looking up at them too, from their spot by the lake in the bed of Hoseok's truck. His eyes began to burn and his head ache as he felt his eyes glaze over. It was hard not to think about Taehyung since his birthday was literally yesterday.
I'm such a crybaby.
He smirks at his own insult, and drys his tears with the sleeve of the jacket Grandma Park tossed at him before he could sneak out the front door in just a sweater.
What Jimin didn't notice was Yoongi's worried gaze flickering over to him as the two begin to slow to a stop in the middle of the field. "You okay?"
Jimin nods and drops his arm back down, "yeah- fine".
"No hey" Yoongi parked his car and reached out his right hand and traced the younger's jaw with his cold fingertips before turning his head to look at him. "Fine isn't an answer, what's wrong?" Yoongi reached his cold hands out and cupped Jimin's cheeks genteelly, and wiped the tears that threatened to string down his cheeks.
Everything.
Them.
Us.
Jimin felt his heart beat rise at the older's caring actions.
He cares.
Jimin felt his head pound as more tears built up inside him. He was left speechless by the boy in front of him, who's eyes were pouring into his own. Silence filled the camaro, and the radio was clearer than it would ever be back home, but here and now it simply sounded like static. Something in Jimin's heart changed as he watched the older, yet he was so lost in his thoughts he didn't notice the older sigh and brush his cheeks dry again.
"You don't have to say- look I'm sorry," the older rushes afraid he's done something to make the younger cry, "but please don't cry".
Jimin wanted to shout at Yoongi that none of this is his fault. Everything isn't Min Yoongi's fault. His problems with them isn't Min Yoongi's fault. The issue with "us" isn't Min Yoongi's fault. It's all his fault, himself. He did this to himself and he should allow his innocent boyfriend to be fooled by his own foolishness.
'No, nothing's wrong' he wants to shout it, but the words bubble at the back of his throat due to the amount of shock he's in.
He blinks as Yoongi's hands slip and fall from his face to his lap, where they intertwine with his own. His gaze follows them as he watches Yoongi brush comforting strokes on the back of his small hands with his thumb. It was soothing and causing Jimin face to heat up as it dawned on him then.
"Yoongi I-"
A loud boom shook the car and Jimin cut himself off. Yoongi quickly snapped his head around and peered out the drivers window at the firework that lit up the night sky. He assumes that Jimin (who's still peering in his direction) was looking past him and watching the firework also. He sat staring at the sky clueless to the younger's insane heartbeat and loving gaze that remained on him, not his window nor the firework that was sizzling away out of sight.
Jimin felt himself slipping into his thoughts as they began to consume him whole.
Yoongi thinks Jimin loves the fireworks.
In reality, Jimin really just loves Yoongi.
