Chapter Thirteen: "Recovery of the heart"

I WOKE UP WITH a bright light in my eyes and people yelling instructions at each other.

"Where am I? " I attempt to mumble. My body hurt like hell, and that included my face.

They begin shushing me.

"You're going to be okay," One of them says.

They looked blurry. I could only make out the genders by their voices, and even then I was a little unsure.

"Grayson. Where's Gray-"

"Miss I'm going to need you to calm down so we can stop the bleeding," another one of them tells me. This time it was a male.

Bleeding? What was he talking about? It wasn't until I looked down at my leg that I realized there was a trail of blood. I was in pain, but the adrenaline prevented me from noticing it all. I had also realized that I was on a stretcher . These things were extremely uncomfortable.

"We're almost at the hospital," A paramedic informs me.

I wondered how long I had blacked out. I was still in pain, so chances were I was going to faint again.

"Please don't let me die," I beg with tears. I felt as if I were going to. "I don't want to die."

"You're going to be okay sweetie. Your parents are waiting for you at the hospital, " a lady with her hair pulled back said to me. "Now, I'm gonna put this mask on you. It's going to give you oxygen. You may black out again from blood loss, so we're going to have to be ready in case your lungs try to collapse. You're gonna be okay though, but only if you calm down. Panicking is only going to make the blood pump faster, and that makes you bleed out faster."

I remember being alarmed by this, but I tried to calm down. I imagined my parents were really worried. Nothing could get them to leave work in the middle of the day.

We pull up to the hospital. I couldn't see anything, but I could feel the ambulance come to a stop.
The paramedics pull me out.

Another ambulance pulls up beside us. They rushed to pull out whoever was inside. A few people from team of paramedics run over to help.

"His heart rate's going to start dropping soon if we don't hurry," one of them yells.

As much as it hurt me to do so, I lean up to get a better look. I had some kind of brace on my neck, but I managed to see.

"Woah, easy," the man beside me advises.

I ignore his every word. I had my eyes on what I was sure was Grayson. I couldn't look. He was covered in blood from his temple down to his neck. I could see shards of glass in his arm. His pants and shirt were ripped and stained. He just laid there lifeless. All that I could think was that he might die, and it was all on me.

The paramedics roll him away.

"Grayson!" I scream unintentionally. My vocal cords started to buzz with agony.

I wanted to hop off of my stretcher and go with him, but that was impossible with the pain that I was in.

"Please calm down miss. Your blood pressure may rise, " the guy says. "You're already loosing blood."

I began to breathe heavy and panic.
He's gonna die! That was my only thought.

"It was all my fault," I sob. I tasted blood as I continued to talk. I hadn't even notice that my cheek was cut very badly.

"HE'S GOING TO DIE BECAUSE OF ME!" I cry. Tears ran down my face and burned my cuts with their salinity. My adrenaline was pumping, but somehow I was feeling the pain now more than ever. Something starts beeping, and the paramedics start yelling.
