Chapter Forty-Three: "Girl's Night Out"

Two Years Later

TIME HAD GONE BY so fast, and today was one of those days that I had forever dreamed of. I lay in my bed thinking of what had happened earlier, staring at the object in front of me...

"Good morning," I whisper as I feel a pair of arms wrap around my waist. Little by little Grayson plants kisses on my neck. He lets out a sigh and moves over to the coffee pot, pouring the contents into a mug. He begins to hum a little tune, and it was very unusual.

"You're extremely happy this morning," I point out, hopping up onto the counter.

"Well, I've been getting good sleep lately."

That was reasonable under the circumstances that the kids were at Mom's. They had been there for about two days. She insisted that they come to stay with her. My week had been hectic. Perri had been blowing up my phone. She had bought me a dress to go to dinner with her tonight, and I had asked what for.

"Just felt like you needed to get out," she told me. I rolled my eyes.

"You're up to something. I don't know what but it's something."

"No, I'm not. I'm just trying to get you to have some fun. I'll be over to do your hair and makeup at six, " she says before hanging up. I had no time to give a response. I put the phone down and sigh. I could only laugh.

"What's going on?" Ethan asks walking into the kitchen, tuxedo in hand. I raise an eyebrow wondering how he got in. He barely visited at all and with a tux?

"Hey?"

I look over at Grayson. He shrugs before putting his mug up to his lips, a small smirk forming. What in the hell was going on?

"Why is everyone acting so damn strange?" I ask before getting up and walking away. I walk into the room and slide on my Nike slides. After pulling my hair up into a ponytail, I grab my keys off of the kitchen counter and walk out to my car. I was suppose to pick the kids up from Mom's, and I had to get back in time for Perri to do my makeup.

I turn on the air conditioner. Itwas mid-June and I had leather seats, which was a bad idea itself. The sun was beaming down, and it was scorching hot outside. I roll down the windows and turn on the radio. So much was on my mind, and I had a deep need to distract myself.

Things had gotten harder and harder every day. Mom was keeping herself busy so that she wouldn't think. She did though. She thought all the time. She cried too. Dad was torn too. He had taken off of work for a while to get himself together. Kyle had come around more and more. It was like he was trying to make to for Mel's absence, and it was actually helping.

I get out of the car and unlock the door with my key. I never knocked. Mom didn't too much care. What's the use if I have a key anyways? I enter the living room. It was filled with sound. Mom, Dad and the twins were all laughing at Moana. I smile. It was a pretty good movie. Grayson and I had watched it with the kids before, and they loved it. I had fallen asleep on it, but I finished it later.

"Hey," I say making my presence known. They all looked at me. Mom waves, popcorn still in her grip.

"Mommy!" Winter yells running to me. I pull her into a hug. Wyatt had come to join in. After giving them both a tight squeeze, I went to sit down on the sofa by Mom. She seemed to be enjoying herself. There was something different about her though. She had on mascara, and she never wore mascara.

"What's the occasion?" I ask.

"Nothing," she responds.

I roll my eyes. Something was up. Winter's hair was curled and Wyatt's was neatly combed. I eye Dad. He had a fresh shave. Nothing my ass.
