Chapter Seventeen: "L-O-V-E"

Friday

"SHE'S NOT GOING TO talk to me Mom," I moan before taking a bite of cereal.

"Well she's not going to be able to avoid you forever," she responds before closing the dishwasher.

Mel was out of control. She was terribly grounded for her blackmail and I...well I was just pregnant. My parents had decided that was punishment enough.

"You know, you can't just eat that unhealthy stuff all day if you're going to be carrying my grandchild," Mom says rubbing my head.

I laugh and continue to eat. I expected her to start me on a low-carb strict diet soon. She was pretty happy about me being pregnant. So happy that she even took time off work. That's a really big thing under the circumstance that she never took off.

"I guess I better get ready for school," I mumble.

School was even harder than usual. I could barely concentrate, and my stomach cramps weren't making it any better.

"Um... I asked Ethan Dolan to drive you to school today if you don't mind," Mom yells from the laundry room.

I almost spit my water out. I cough and try to recover.

"You asked him to do what!?" I panic. "I actually do mind."

This wasn't happening. Why? Why was she doing this to me.

I walk into the laundry room.

"I just thought that you shouldn't be riding the bus, and you and Mel in the same car isn't the wisest thing right now," she explains.

I groan. As much as she was right, I just didn't want to ride with Ethan right now. I much rather preferred Perri, even after our fight at the hospital.

She probably resented me. I had actually forgotten about everything that happened between us. I missed her. She was the only person that I had, and now I was lonely.

"Okay, I'll go get ready," I say before going upstairs to my room.

Before entering I look at Mel's door. It was quiet in there. She was probably still asleep or crying. I didn't expect her to go to school today, but it was her high school diploma not mine.

I didn't feel like putting much effort in my outfit today. I put on a T-shirt dress like usual though. My pants were growing a little tight. My stomach wasn't even showing, but I could tell that I was putting on weight. I looked normal as ever, even though I didn't feel like it.

Twenty minutes went by. Ethan pulls into the driveway. I grab my book bag and mom hands me a banana. I thank her, and I go outside. Little did she know, I hated bananas.

I open the car door and get in.

"Hola," Ethan greets me.

"Hola," I respond. "Banana?"

I hold the fruit out to him. Awkwardly, he takes it.

"Thanks...I guess"

I nod and put on my seatbelt. I tried my hardest not to make this situation as weird as it really was. He seemed a bit uncomfortable, but I was too, so it was okay.

We start to drive towards a stop sign. I kept reliving the car accident in my head. It was terrifying. I never wanted to have my life flash before my eyes again.

"You okay?" Ethan asks. "Your face is a little red."

"I'm fine," I answer dishonestly.

He drops the topic, but I can see him look at me from the corner of his eyes every few seconds. It was a bit annoying, but I had to stand it for mom's sake.
