Chapter Thirty-Seven: "Happy Birthday!"

About A year Later

"PLACE THE CAKE OVER THERE," I say pointing to the table by the pool. The caterer nods and does so. I look around. The balloons were in the right place, the bouncy house was up, and the banner was hung. Everything was perfect. I dust my dress off and puff my hair. I looked like a housewife, but in a good way.

"Hey Baby," Grayson kisses me on the cheek.

"Hey. How was work?"

He shrugs. "The usual."

"Hmm, I expected so."

Mom walks towards us, the twins walking by her side. I bend down to face them.

"Hey cuties." They smile their adorable smiles, and hug me. Winter catches sight of Grayson and holds her arms out. She was such a daddy's girl.

"Hey princess," he smiles, picking her up. She had on a princess dress and fairy wings. I always thought that having princess parties were cheesy, but it was quite fun to decorate. Wyatt had on a ninja outfit. He liked teenage mutant ninja turtles, so we did a princesses v. Ninjas party theme.

"The guest are going to be here any minute, Mom announces, placing her hand on my shoulder. I smile and pull her into a hug.

"I love you so much Mom. Thanks for all the help."

"I love you too honey," she says squeezing me tighter. "It was no problem at all. "

She was taking time off of work more than she ever has now. It was actually doing her business some good since she wasn't as stressed.

"Wanda!" Dad calls. He was grilling out, and the smell was making me hungry.

"What?" Mom calls back. He signals her over.

"That's my cue," she says laughing. She walks away, and I look over at Grayson who's entertaining the twins with a balloon animal. I laugh at the sight. It was cute. He was an amazing father.

Almost a whole year had passed. I hadn't spoken to Mel since our big fight. I wouldn't be surprised if she didn't show up for the twin's birthday party today. She hated my guts, but I was over it.

I had furthered my relationship with Gray. We had moved in together, and were taking care of the twins on our own. It was hectic, but we were learning a lot from each other. He had a good job. Dad had got him a spot in his business, and it was paying more than well. It was a plus for me, but only because I got to see him in a suit every morning. Who doesn't love a man in a suit?

I started my college courses online. That was good since I was a stay at home mom. Mel had went to college, but ended up dropping out. She had moved in with someone, but I had no idea who, and Mom damn sure wouldn't tell me. Ethan stayed Ethan. He visited Grayson and I about every week. He was still a bit heartbroken though.

I walk into the house. The doorbell rings, and I open the door. A girl with familiar green eyes and a blonde pixie cut appears. Beside her was a tall dark-skinned male with incredible bone structure. He had one blue eye and one brown, which was absolutely stunning.

"Perri?" I question. She nods her head. We wrap each other in a hug and jump up and down.

"Oh my gosh. Your hair! It's beautiful!"

She rubs it. "Really? I didn't really think blonde was my thing, but I tried something new."

"It looks amazing."

She looks over to the man beside her. "This is Jermaine. He's from Jamaica. We met at a coffee shop."

I shake Jermaine's hand. "Hello, it's nice to meet you. Perri's told me so much about you," he says.

I stare at him. He was beautiful. His hair fell down to his back in luscious locs, and had small she'll decorations in them. He was a looker, and his voice was like caramel.

"Um...all good things I hope," I say snapping out of it."

Perri laughs. "Attractive isn't he?" she leans in and whispers.

I smile, and a pair of arms wrap around me. "Hey Perri. Loving the new hairstyle, " I hear Grayson say. He kisses my cheek once more.

"Thanks Grayson. Nice to see you! This Is Jermaine, Jermaine, Grayson," Perri introduced them. They shake hands.

I move out of the way so that they could come in. I was so excited to see Perri. It had been too long. Grayson closes the door, and Jermaine and Perri walk into the living room. He lookes to make sure no one was around.

"What are you doin-" he cuts me off with a kiss. I tug away.

"Grayson, we have guest."

He laughs. "I don't care. Let's go upstairs. Your mother has the kids."

I wondered if he was really serious, and he was. "Grayson. No. The guest will be here any m-"

"Five minutes?"

I shoot him a dirty look." You really think we could do all that in five minutes?"

He thinks for a minute. "Yeah you're right. How about ten?"

I scoff and push him out of the way. "You're ridiculous you know that?"

He laughs and walks after me. I enter the living room.

"Where are the kids?" Perri asks.

"They're outside with Mom."

"Oh." she looks at me. I look back. I was curious as to what she was staring at, but I realized that it was me.

"Jade, why's your lipstick smeared?"

I feel my lips and look at Grayson. He and Jermaine along with Perri try to hold in their laughter.

I groan, "I'll be back."

Grayson continues to laugh. I look at him. "I don't know what's funnier, my smeared lipstick or the smudge on your face."

He wipes his face and looks at his fingers before groaning.

I laugh at him as I walk up the stairs to go to the bathroom. I close the door behind me. I had nude lipstick all the way down to my chin. I immediately wipe it away with a makeup wipe. I didn't bother reapplying it. I didn't want to have to go through this situation again. Grayson wouldn't stop kissing me.

Honestly, I needed to find a better brand anyway. I puff my curls and put on some chapstick.

After about ten minutes, I walk back downstairs. I hear laughter throughout the air. Grayson was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. He braces his hand on my side.

"What's up you?" I ask. "What's going on?"

He clears his throat. "Mel just got here, but I want to know if you can control yourself?"

I give him a look. "I've got this. I'm over it."

He leta me go, believing my words. I take a deep breath and head into the living room. I couldn't believe what I saw. Mel had on a skin tight black dress with red lips. Her hair was in glorious curls and hung down her back. She actually looked decent with makeup on this time. Her appearance, I could believe, but when I saw who her date was, I almost flipped.

"Grant?"
