Epilogue: "I Love You Grayson Dolan"

Three years Later

I HOLD THE CHILD in my arms, gracefully rocking her back and forth. Wyatt and Winter tugged on my sleeves, begging to see their new little sister.

"Is she awake!?" Wyatt demanded to know. He was extremely excited, his eyes resembling those of Christmas lights.

Winter brushes her hand across the baby's face. "I can't wait to paint her nails and do her hair, Mommy."

I laugh at her cuteness. "I bet you can't sweetheart."

A body advances into the room, the steps breaking the silence of the nursery.

"Daddy!" The twins scream as they both run to hug him. He shushes them as he wraps them in his arms.
"Why don't you guys go downstairs and let Mommy and I talk."

They both do just that. I watch with a smile before leaning up from the rocking chair. After a few seconds later, I lower the sleeping child down into the bassinet, pulling the covers over her tiny stomach.

Grayson hums. "You were always so good at that."

I tuck a lock of hair behind my ear. "You were never so bad yourself."

He laughs before caressing me in his arms. I wince at the shock, and he loosens his grip in slight fear.

"I'm alright," I assure him,  but his body doesn't relax. "You're not going to break me."

He moves away to the side. "Yeah, I know. I'm just being cautious."

I smile uncomfortably. Grayson had been scared to touch me these last few days. I was only out of the hospital for a week, and he was frightened at my every move.

My pregnancy with Paige hadn't been the easiest. I was in labor for hours, and I did it all without an epidural. Ethan had come to the hospital to visit, but he was scared to hold her. I'm sure that he would still be scared to try again today when he came over. I understood the fear. After all, she was only a few days old and extremely tiny.

"How's that headache coming along?" Grayson asks as he places himself in the rocking chair where I was once sitting.

I shake my hand in the air. "It's a little better now. It'll be better when I get some good sleep."

He laughs. "We have a new born and two six year-olds, that's not going to happen anytime soon."

"Yeah, good point." I move over to him and lean against the frame of the door. I could tell that he wanted me to steer clear of him, but I didn't want to. I wanted him to hold me without being scared that he would break me.

A crash emerges throughout the house. Grayson jumps up from the rocking chair to see what's going on downstairs. I look over to Paige's crib. She softly whines, catching her breath between every rep. I let my body tirelessly float over to her before slipping a pacifier into her mouth.

Her eyes fight the sleep for a while before she finally closes her lids. I sigh in relief and wonder down the stairs to find the source of the commotion. When I get into the living room, Grayson's standing there staring at the twins. I look at the pile of broken glass between them, a bouncy ball to the side of it.

"I thought we established that you're not suppose to play with the ball inside the house," he looks down at them. They frown as he folds his arm. I stand there in my night gown watching the scene. I wasn't too quick to step in. I let Gray be the bad guy most of the time.

"No swimming in the pool for a week." He looks back at me. I raise my brows. He didn't like punishing the kids anymore than I did, but they had to learn one way or another. That was probably the only thing other than less sleep, that I hated about parenting.
