Chapter Twenty-Four: "Baby Fever"

Grayson's POV

"SO FAR WE HAVE diapers, bottles, pacifiers, wipes, anddddd that's it," Baby girl says as she looks in the shopping cart. I hand her the list, and she scans it. We were out on an early shopping spree for the baby. Her dad had started a plan for the nursery. We were going to the Obgyn to find out the sex in a couple of days. That way we could come to a decision on the paint color.

"Damn," I curse. "The baby isn't even born and it already requires this much attention?"

Baby Girl laughs. "Jealous much?"

"Yeah. I don't need someone stealing your attention away from me."

She hits me in the shoulder, and I smile. Usually I hated shopping, but I was actually enjoying her company. I admit that she absolutely beautiful today. Her hair was messy and filled with curls, but it looked better on her than any other girl. At least I thought so.

She stands on her tippy toes, attempting to reach something. I stand behind her to help.

"Thanks," she whispers as she turns around to face me. Her cheeks were flushed. She looked adorable.

"No problem," I reply.

"We're too cute," she says walking back over to the cart. I roll my eyes, but agree. I saw us as a couple, but I wasn't sure about her. She dropped hints here and there, but nothing major. She had told me that she loved me, and I had said the same. It meant something to me, but I could never be so sure with her.

I did love the thought of us. We just made sense. That's what Ethan didn't get. My heart belonged to this girl. She was mine, and I strongly believed that her child was too. Even if Ethan was the father, I wouldn't care. That still wouldn't stop me from wanting Baby Girl.

"So, Where'd you go the other day?" I wonder. "I called you like five times."

She starts walking onto the next isle, and I follow.

"I went to talk with Ethan," she admits as if it isn't such a big deal. It was to me. Although I appreciated her honesty, I was still a bit mad. Why would she go anywhere with my brother and not let me know first?

"Talk about what?" I ask.

She huffs before turning around.
"We just talked, Grayson. If he chooses to tell you what went down, that's him."

I didn't say anything else. I just looked at the teddy bears on the shelves in silence. Maybe they talked about the blood on his shirt and why he was crying. Maybe. I wasn't going to ask Ethan because I knew that he would over exaggerate, but I expected Baby Girl to tell me.

"Can you hand me that elephant?"  Baby Girl asks.

I swing my hand over her head to reach the shelf above her. The elephant was all the way in the back. I had no idea how she could even see it.

About three isles later I was still silent. I continue to try to wrap my head around what she and Ethan could've possibly talked about. Maybe the two were discussing their relationship and where their heads were at. Whatever it was, I deserved to know.

"Why are you so quiet?" she wonders. "You didn't get that way until I mentioned Ethan."

I shrug, and She rolls her eyes. She throws another pack of diapers into the shopping cart.

"You can't control every aspect of my life, Grayson. If we're going to be together, I'll still have to associate with your brother," she says kind of making a point.

I walk over to her, taking her into a hug from behind. My face was planted in her hair, and it smelled amazing. I couldn't stay mad at her forever.

"I'm sorry," I apologize. "You know I get jealous sometimes. I just don't understand why you can't tell MS what the two of you talked about. If it isn't that big of a deal, I think I deserve to know."

She turns around to look at me.

"There's no need to apologize. I'm not angry. I just wish you'd understand that I want you, not him." she says looking into my eyes. "And really? We're not married Gray. I don't have to tell you everything. You don't even do that."

She wasn't wrong. I didn't tell her everything, so I shouldn't expect different from her. I had to give her time, and maybe then she would tell me. I give her a small kiss, which leads to many.

"We need to finish the list," she whispers as she puts her fingers on my lips, stopping me from further action.

"So we're not doing PDA now?"

"No, no PDA," she grins before laughing.

I make a slightly disapproving whining noise before walking over to another section, and she only shakes her head.

As I'm walking, a familiar figure walked towards us. I wanted to duck and hide, but I was completely out in the open.

"Grayson?" she smiles. I look at her as she approaches us.

"Myra!" I exclaim in an unexcited tone.

She was a little tall,  blonde-haired, and thin faced. She could probably win over any man's heart if she wasn't such a bitch.

"Um Hi?" Baby Girl says looking confused.

"Hi," Myra responds, looking unimpressed. "Is this your cousin or something, Gray?"

My face turns red, and I nervously laugh. I was a bit angry.

"No, she's my-"

"I'm his girlfriend," Baby Girl steps in. I could feel a cat fight coming.

My eyebrow shoots up, and I begin to scratch my head. Her eyes were solid. She was staring Myra down, and I could tell that she was Unbothered. I had seen Mel in a rude state, but it was nothing compared to her sister. Baby Girl looked way sexier being a bitch.

"Oh,  Girlfriend?" Myra dryly smiles as she looks at me.

"Do you have somewhere to be?" I ask, growing tired of her bullshit.

"Yeah, right here," she boldly answers.

I had no idea how to respond. I didn't do too well with female drama.

"Someone having a baby?" she asks skimming the cart.

I look at Baby Girl to indicate that I don't know what to say, but I could tell that she was just as lost as I was.

"Yeah, we are," I find myself saying. I wonder in my mind if I had just really said that, but I was happy that I did. I wanted to see Myra squirm.

I advert my eyes to Baby Girl. She was looking up at me with wide eyes. I give her a smile.

"Are you serious?" Myra huffs with a confused expression.

I put my hands in my pockets and jingle the keys around. "Yeah."

Her face was turning red now, and I loved every second of it. Baby Girl didn't say anything, so I had no idea of how she was feeling.

"I'm going to go do something more important," Myra clears her throat before stomping off.

"Grayson!" Baby Girl whispers sternly. "Was that Myra Peterson from the cheerleading squad?"

I nod. "Yeah. I dated her for a while. What about her?"

"She'll tell everyone she knows about this. Everyone!"

I throw my hand in the air. "So? Come on, we've talked about my reputation before. I don't care what-"

"It's not about you Grayson!" she yells. "People will look at me differently if they know I'm pregnant. Do you not understand that?"

I huff, "Let them look then. You don't need to impress them. I'm here for you, not them."

She rubs her head in frustration. I had no idea what more to say. People were going to find out at some point. Why not now?
