My arms felt like they were going to fall off and by they looks of Jess she was feeling the same. "Why do the English books have to be so thick and heavy? It's ridiculous!" Jess stated. I shrugged and looked down the hallway. There was no sign that our teacher was coming.
"Free Period!" Calum yelled. Everyone pushed and shoved passed us like we weren't there. Jess and I looked at each other and shrugged.
"What do you want to do?" Jess asked. I smiled.
"Do you want to go to that place?" I asked. Jess nodded violently. We ran down the hall leaving our books out the front of the classroom. At the start of the year we found a hole in the schools fence behind the back of the school. We never went through it but we had planed to go through and see what was there, since no one goes behind there but now we have the chance my stomach was filled with butterfly's. It was a tight squeeze through the hole but we managed. We jumped over fallen logs and ran past thousands of trees, until we stopped at a spot where the trees broke away and the sun shined on the blue, glistening water bellow. Jess and I stuck our hands into the water and some fish came up to inspect them. They left disappointed that we weren't food. After drying our hands we laid down on the green grass that surrounded the water and let the light of the sun warm us.
"I love this place," Jess stated. "Even after being here for a little."
"Yeah I agree, it makes you feel like when your at home, you fell safe and comfortable," I replied.
"Yeah I have to agree but there is something at the back of my head that makes me uncertain about something, you know?" Jess pointed out. I sighed and punched her arm.
"You're probably just thinking about the test we have next week," I suggested.
"Ok well first of all OW and second of all shut up," Jess said sternly. I giggled. We sat there for a while in silence letting our thoughts wonder away form the stress of school. "Jess is right I do have this uncertain feeling about this place but I don't want to admit it," I thought.
"What was that?" Jess asked concerned.
I sat up and leaned on my elbows, "Hu...what?"
"I heard something over there it sounded big," Jess pointed. I looked to where Jess was pointing but saw nothing. I turned back at her.
"It's probity just a wild animal," I suggested. She grabbed my arm and held it tight.
"Taia!" Jess yelled. I looked back and fear began to crawled up my spine. I couldn't believe it.
Jess had a death grip on my arm and it started to feel numb.
"What do we do?" She whispered.
"We show it that we mean it no harm,"
"Are you sure that's going to work?"
"Yes," I lied. I wasn't even sure if we would live to see the next hour. I had managed to get Jess to realise her death grip on me and I walked towards the creature. It was about a few centre meters taller than me with smooth, red scales, large, leathery wings, silver horns that rested next to its ears, a long tail that dragged behind it and small spikes ran along it's back and stopped at the end of its tail. As I held out my hand the creature growled at me lifting it's top lip show a row or large, white, sharp teeth that could easily bite through a rock. "Sh it's ok I'm a friend," I whispered. The creature lowered it's lip and stared at me with beautiful eyes. I put my hand back down. The creature stared at me for a long moment.
"What are you doing?!" Jess whispered.
"Haven't you ever seen how to train a wild animal?" I asked.
"No,"
"Well you must gain there trust before you do anything else," I finished lamely.
"But it's a...a dragon!"
"Yes well they are no different from any other creature,"
"Yeah I guess you're right," Jess smiled. The dragon was still staring at my waiting to see if I was a threat. She lowered her head to my eye level. I put up my hands to show I had nothing that could harm her. After she sniffed my hands she sat down. I put my hand up again and moved towards her. She hesitated for a second but lowered her head even more. My hand touched the rough scales between her horns. The scales felt rough, cold and sharp. The dragon made a sort of humming sound.
