Chapter 9: Play Time with the Fish

"7:01 I still have and hour to stay here," I said. The sky was dark when I woke up. Charlotte waited for me to get up before she did. I scooped up some water in my hand and it looked like it was glowing. I smiled thinking my eyes where playing tricks on me. Charlotte had disappeared behind the trees and returned with a bird in her mouth. My jaw dropped.
"Charlotte," I cried. She looked at me strangely and dropped the bird. I moved next to it. For a second it looked like it was dead then jumped onto its feet making me jump back. My heart skipped a few beats. The bird looked at me and squawked.
"Hey I'm not a threat," I explained. The bird calmed down and let me see if it was ok. It had a broken wing but looked like it would heal. I rested the bird on my lap and then it fell asleep. I sighed.
"Good girl Charlotte," I praised and Charlotte hummed.

Charlotte:
I saw the little bird trying to fly away. For a second I thought it would die but then I thought of Taia and Jess. "They can help it," I thought. Taia smiled at me.
"Good girl Charlotte," she said. As the clouds parted and the moon shone my scales sparkled like rubies. When I looked back Taia was looking towards the sky. She stood like a statue and wouldn't move. I nudged her arm but nothing happened. You see unlike humans, we dragons don't normally feel the same emotions like humans. Yes we love, get angry, be happy, get exited, feel guilty and worry but not all the time like humans. I didn't worry about her and swam in the lake. The cool water felt nice running over my scales. The fish swam circles around me begging me to play with them. I gave in and played.

"You're it first," one said. I sighed.
"Fine, you have ten seconds to hide starting now!" I closed my eyes and heard the fish swim away.
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10! Ready or not here I come." It wasn't hard to find them all for I had perfect vision better than a humans. The fish swam away and left me on my own. I returned back to Taia and she was still there but sitting down thinking hard about something. I sat next to her and watched what she was doing. She drew something I to the dirt but I could make out what it was. I let out a frustrated puff of smoke.
"Don't complain at me you don't even know what I'm doing," she explained. "She needs to be home before 8:00," I thought. I pulled the phone rom Taia's pocket.
"What?!" She snapped. I gestured to her phone. She sighed and turned it on. The time read 7:35. Taia got some fallen apples. She took out the seeds and fed them to the bird who was resting on the nest she had made it.
"Told you I wasn't going to eat you," I said.
"I'm sorry that I underestimated you," she apologised.
"It's ok, at least you will be able to fly in a month or so," I pointed out. She squawked happily.
