"Miss Scott! I do not like you sleeping in my classroom!" Mr Commander ordered. I opened my heavy eyes.
"Sorry sir I didn't get a very good sleep last night," I explained. Mr Commander's face softened.
"Fine just don't let it happen again," he replied. I sighed. Not only did I not get any sleep last but Jess wasn't in my class so it made me want to sleep even more. I had stayed up all night thinking about the flight on Charlotte. They way the wind danced through my hair and the feeling of Charlotte's rough scales under my hands. I mean it's not everyday you find a wild dragon and befriend it.
"Miss Scott what is the answer?" Mr Commander asked. I turned my attention to him.
"The answer is thirty four point zero," I replied quickly. Mr Commander looked blown away.
"That's...correct," he hesitated. I could hear a few girls giggling behind me.
"Good one Taia, Mr Commander is a fool to mess with you" Olivia whispered.
"Why? By showing him I can pay attention," I mumbled. Olivia blushed. I smiled satisfied.
Jess ran up behind me.
"Hey girl how was class?" She asked cheery. I smiled.
"Oh you know the usual Olivia trying to be cool," I giggled.
"What did you say to her today?" Jess asked curiously.
"Well I was day dreaming and Mr Commander asked me and answer to a question, I got the answer right and he looked shocked, Olivia leaned over to me and said 'Good one Taia, Mr Commander is a fool to mess with you' so I said 'Why? By showing him I can pay attention' and Olivia went as red as anything," I finished. Jess burst out laughing. Everyone looked at us. I hugged my books.
"Wow she is such a suck up," Jess stated. We walked to our next class while Jess still laughed and I stared at the floor embarrassed. Everyone from my class lingered around the hallway not bothering to stay in one spot. I sighed and leaned against the lockers while Jess was talking about some stupid family trip she went on. I just kept nodding until something caught the edge of my eye. I turned my head and saw a boy with shiny, black hair, a slender body and tanned skin. Whatever Jess was saying now was going through one ear and out the other. The boy looked familiar but I don't know where I had seen him. "Is he new or have I never noticed him," I muttered under my breath. He turned his head to me and I quickly looked away. Jess punched my arm hard.
"Ow!" I flung my head around to her.
"Have you been listening to anything I've been saying?" She asked angrily. I looked back over to him and was relived that he wasn't looked. I felt Jess' eyes on my so I quickly looked to the ground. My blond hair slipped over my ears and covered the sides of my face. Jess grabbed my chin and made me looked at her. "You're blushing," she pointed out. I grabbed her wrist and pushed her.
"No I'm not!" I said sharply. Jess looked over at the boy and saw he was staring but not at her at me. I bit my lip.
"Do you know him?" She asked. I shook my head.
"N...no,"
"Well he's staring at you," she gestured towards him. I refused to make eye contact with her.
"Where's the teacher when you need them," I muttered looking back at the floor.
"What was that?" Jess asked crossing her arms.
"N...nothing just thinking out loud," I hesitated. She looked at him then back at me.
"His names Beck and he just transferred from a school in England," Jess explained flatly. My jaw dropped.
"How do you know that?" I asked.
"He's in my maths class, you can talk to him if you want," Jess suggested looking like she had a plan. I shook my head.
"No thank you and why would you suggest that?" I asked feeling my cheeks heat up again. Jess sighed.
"Don't be such a baby come on," she said talking my arm and pulling my towards him before I could say anymore.
