Clarke's pov:

After my mother finally finishes up with me, I try to help my mother finish with the rest of the wounded.

"Clarke, go lie down. You need to let your leg rest otherwise you might reopen the wound." I take a breath and roll my eyes still determined to help where I can.

"I've got this mom, don't worry," I hear a sigh from beside me and begin to help the young girl on the table before me knowing my mother has given up.

"Lexa!" I continue with the patient, ignoring my mother's call to my girlfriend who is trying to help where she can with the wounded on the opposite end of the tent. I see the brunette walk towards the entrance where I am, following the call.

"Yes, Dr. Griffin," I hear my mother let out a half laugh half sigh.

"How many times do I have to tell you to call me Abby?" I smile while I move to grab some bandages to wrap around the young girl's arm, nearly tripping as my leg gives way beneath me. I pair of arms catches me and I look up to see Lexa's worried face looking down at me.

"And she is why I called you Lexa," I turn to face my mother trying not to shout at her for calling my girlfriend over to try and get rid of me. "She needs to be lying down otherwise her wound may open up again." I watch my mother's arms brandish in the air as she steps away with us and gives us room to move while Lexa begins to drag me out of the tent.

"Okay, well I got her and I will keep her in our bed for the rest of the day," I feel Lexa shift behind me, her arm sliding under my legs while she picks me up bridal style. I continue to shoot daggers at my mother.

I continue to stare while Lexa carries me out of the tent, bringing me outside where blood is drying on the dirt ground.

"Lexa, I need to be in there to help." I look up at her when I get no response and see a small smile on her face as her eyes determinedly continue to stare forward.

"You heard your mother Clarke. Being in there will not help you or us find Y/n" I lean my head against her chest as we make our way into our tent.

"You heard the Azgeda warriors," I try to not let my anger surface through my tone. "Blood must have blood. The mountain men took some of their people so they're either going to kill Y/n and Krev or they're going to trade with the mountain men." My girlfriend carefully places me on the bed, taking my shoes off and tossing them across the room.

"They are not going to kill her Clarke, they are too valuable to the mountain men." I can hear the strain in Lexa's voice and turn my head to see that her jaw is clenched while she speaks. I begin to make my way off the bed.

"Where do you think you are going, Clarke?" She shifts back up to my torso and lightly pushes my shoulder back. I let out a breath of frustration and look at the tall brunette.

"Y/n was trying to get away in the fight," I suck on my teeth and take a minute to take in a deep breath before I start to yell. "I can't just sit here and do nothing Lexa!" I see her small smile come back on her face before she turns and sit on my stomach. I stare at her pointedly waiting for an explanation.

"I just temporarily lost one of my girlfriend's, Clarke." She softly pushes a few stray hairs from my forehead and softly brushes the pad of her thumb on my cheek. "I am not about to lose you because of a wound we can easily fix." I feel my jaw begin to relax under her touch but don't dare to look at her and possibly allow the flame of anger leave me.

"I saw two people step on her during the fight," I play with my thumb between two of my fingers not shifting my eyes. "The impact knocked her out Lex. She was unconscious when they took her! She can't fight back like we taught her when she is unconscious." Lexa rests her hand on my cheek as my voice steadily grows. The tears begin to brim my eyes while I continue to play with my finger. " I want them to step forward and pay for what they did."

A long pause fills the room before Lexa releases a sigh to interrupt it.

"Clarke, they were all trying to stop the kidnappers." I stop moving my finger and keep my eyes trained on my skin while she speaks. "They were all trying to protect the hostages." I open my mouth to say something but nothing comes out, a tear slips past my eyelid. Lexa immediately moves her thumb and brushes it off then continues to stroke my cheek. "You know that no one meant her any harm." I continue to stare at my finger her soft voice soothing my anger, my sadness for losing Y/n growing.

"We are supposed to be the ones who protect her Lex," I finally move my eyes up to her face, seeing that there are tears in her eyes that are quietly falling along her cheeks. "We failed. They have her. And we have no idea what they are going to do to her." I take in a shaky breath. Lexa wraps her arms around my shoulders and pulls me in for a hug. Both of our shaky breaths fill the air.

More of my tears fall as I think of her humming that would normally be the only thing that we can hear now being filled with tears as I begin to struggle to breathe against the sadness.

"We need to find her Lexa."

"I know baby." Her hands softly play with my hair as I allow the hot salty tears drop onto her clothes.

"We will."
