Colleen's POV
"You need to push harder!" The doctor says.
     "One..two..three..four..five..six..
seven..eight..nine..ten!" Rachel and Erik count.
I squeeze both of their hands, close to my chest, trying so hard just to get the first dang baby out.
Everything hurts. I feel like throwing up.  Sweat and tears run in streams down my face.  This is the most intense feeling I have ever experienced in my life.
"You're so close, lovey!" Erik says encouragingly.

11:20 PM
After a few more pushes, nurses are pulling my gown down at the top, pushing on my stomach, and laying a baby straight up to my chest.  I breath a sigh of relief, even though I know I have to do it again.  There are tears all over my face.  Erik touches the baby's back and whispers "Violet."  I look up at him, "you're halfway there, love," he says.
Rachel rubs a washcloth across my face and pushes stray hairs out of my face with her hand.
Everyone's drying the baby off and trying to turn the second whilst still in my stomach.  They're smearing ultrasound goo and shouting orders which I can't understand.  Before I can even realize, Erik has cut the cord of the first. All I'm worried about is the little alien currently placed on my chest.  This is the best feeling in the world.
After some amount of minutes that feel like an eternity but probably aren't, I hear the words, "okay!  We've got it.  Baby number two is head down!  Go ahead and push, Colleen!"
As I'm forcing the second out, the nurses take Violet off of my chest so I don't squeeze her or something.

11:31
The second is much easier, and within seconds, I have another tiny, adorable alien on my bare chest.  To this one, Erik whispers, "Hazel." brushing her arm. Violet is also placed back on my boobs.
"You did it, baby.  You were so good." He strokes my hair and whispers calming words.
"Okay, Colleen," my doctor says as nurses massage my stomach, "you need to deliver the placenta.  If we can get one good push from you, that's probably all it will take."
I nod and wait for the go. "Go ahead and give us one big push, Colleen"
"Do you wanna see it?" My doctor asks way too excitedly.
"Absolutely not."

Rachel looks down at me and says, "That was really incredible. Also the best birth control ever."
The delivery room calms down within minutes.  Many nurses leave and the chaos is chilling out.
They say you forget the pains of labor immediately.  They lied.  But they also said it's so worth it.  And looking into the four most beautiful eyes I have ever seen in my life proves the latter to be true.  I'd do it all again just to have these girls in my arms.
One at a time, they take each baby from me to get brith statistics and run Apgar.
"Do we have a name for baby A?" The nurse asks.
I look up at Erik and say out loud, "Violet Adeline Stocklin"
"Aww, so sweet," the nurse responds.
"Six pounds five ounces!" She says surprised.  "And...18 and inches."
The heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and all the other things all look good.  She isn't jaundice or anything.  Pretty much the perfect baby.
Next is Hazel.  "What's baby B's name?" The asks.
"Hazel Paige Stocklin," Erik says aloud.
"Six pounds, two ounces!  Wow!  These babies are really big!  And...it looks like 17 and 1/2 inches."
Hazel is perfectly healthy too.  Passes the Apgar test with flying colors.  I'm just glad everyone is healthy.  I'm healthy and both girls are healthy.  I had visions of the twins being whisked away into the NICU, which I think is every mother's worst fear.
They lay both back on my chest and cover them in blankets and hats. "Colleen, how are you feeling?" a nurse asks me.
"I feel good. Tired. But good."
"Okay, that's good to hear. Your temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate are all good. There is no severe bleeding and the placenta delivery went as expected. You did a really good job."
"Since everyone's stable, we're gonna go ahead and move you back to labor and delivery for recovery. There you can begin attempts at breastfeeding okay?"
I nod, not really paying attention. Amazingly enough, I feel great.  Everything hurts and I'm already sore, but I feel so empowered.  I have never been more proud to be a woman in my entire life than I am in this moment.
