"So this guy is a werewolf?" Blake whispered, staring in disbelief at us. Jordan sat down on the end of the booth sofa as he spoke and handed us all our drinks.

"Yep." I snapped, glancing around the small cafe to make sure nobody heard us.

All six of us were squeezed into our regular booth in Ridgeview cafe, filling Blake in on the events of the day. Most days we would come to the cafe and sit in our booth, it was our only time in the human world without being in school. We enjoyed chatting and gossiping away from the prying ears of the pack.

"And Alpha Reed just let him into the pack?" He asked incredulously and we all nodded and mumbled a 'mhm'.

"Why?" He asked as I stirred my milkshake with my straw.

I shrugged at him and he went silent, clearly deep in thought. "And he is going to school with us?" He continued to repeat everything we had told him in question form.

"Yes," Ryder groaned, rolling his eyes. The bell to the cafe chimed and I looked up to see Zach stride gracefully in and over to the counter. He turned and flashed our table a smirk and then placed his money down onto the worktop.

"That's him isn't it." Blake sniffed and we all nodded.

"That's him," Alexia mumbled, watching him closely. I could almost see the hearts in her eyes as well as the drool trickling down her chin.

"Pull yourself together," I snapped at her and then clambered off the torn booth sofa and headed to the one he had now occupied. As I passed him, I narrowed my eyes and slid onto the tatty dark red sofa on the opposite side of the table.

"You again," he muttered curtly. He didn't look up from his phone as he spoke and I scoffed, unimpressed.

"Me again," I replied, dryly. "So, why exactly did my father let you join our pack?" I asked getting straight to the point. He slid his phone into his pocket exasperatedly and looked up at me. His expression seemed bored and detached as he studied me. "He doesn't usually do anything for free," I added.

"We made a deal," he said, uninterested, before tilting his head to examine me. "So you are Alpha Reeds daughter?" His face contorted into a slight frown and I couldn't help but scowl at his obvious disappointment.

I quickly nodded at his feeble attempt to change the subject. "What deal?"

"Would your father want you asking these questions?" He smirked and I shrugged. I knew my dad wouldn't want me asking any questions. If it was my business he would have told me and he would go mad if he knew I was trying to find answers but I didn't need this guy knowing he had leverage. "From the look on your face, I would say not." He chuckled.

"What deal?" I demanded once again, more forcefully. I folded my arms over my chest, trying to look intimidating.

"Listen sweetheart," he started and I grumbled at the nickname once again. He laughed at my reaction before leaning over the table to whisper in my ear. "You can ask that question as many times as you like, it wont get you an answer. Now why don't you go back to your friends who are all obviously listening to us," he nodded over his shoulder and I saw them all scowling and blushing after being caught, "and leave me alone." He leaned back and smirked. I rolled my eyes at my friends behind him and turned my attention back to the wolf in front of me.

"I'm not done," I stated confidently, ignoring his suggestion and scooting further into the booth.

He rolled his eyes and knitted his brows together. "Then please." He gestured for me to continue.

"Where are the rest of your old pack?" I tilted my head and furrowed my eyebrows, watching as his demeanour changed.

He narrowed his eyes at me for a second and I smirked as I watched him glance down at his fingers. He had kept his eyes trained on me this entire conversation so the fact he had broken eye contact indicated I had hit a nerve. Bingo.

"I didn't have a pack," he responded harshly. His face remained hard and emotionless but his eyes held sadness.

"Lone wolf?" I asked, a hint if sympathy amongst the sea of curiosity in my voice.

He nodded and I couldn't help but pry. "What about family?" He glared at me, his gaze burning into my eyes.

"No family. Just me," he snapped, a small smile still spread across his face while his eyes clouded over with anger. His voice sounded more bitter than bleak.

"What happened?" I knew I was pushing my luck but I needed answers.

"They were killed," he stated hard-hearted. I was about to ask how when he shot me a look and I knew I would regret it if I asked about his family any further.

"Do you have a surname?" I asked instead.

"Thorn," he replied. "I'm bored of 20 questions now. How about my turn?" He asked, his eyes shone as his smirk spread across his face. He placed his forearms on the table and shifted his weight onto them so his eyes were directly in line with mine. His back arched slightly to lower to my height and I dragged my teeth along my bottom lip as I was met with his clear, sparkling eyes.

I furrowed by brows before nodding at him to ask away, still tugging on my lip.

"Do you have a name?" He asked, smirk still playing on his lips.

"Ella," I replied bluntly.

"So Ella Reed, daughter of the Alpha, why so interested in me?" He laughed, narrowing his eyes at me slightly. I couldn't help but shudder at the way my name rolled off his tongue, he pronounced it slowly, elongating each syllable. I saw his tongue roll as he articulated the double 'l'

"I don't like it when I am in the dark. I like to know who is in my pack and what they are doing. At all times," I informed him.

"You sound like your father." He grinned and ran a hand through his hair. It was one of the sexiest things I had ever seen -such a simple movement that I had seen guys do a million times before but he was different. His large muscles flexed as he bent his arm. His large hands gathered every lock and easily swept it backwards. Once he removed his hand, every hair fell perfectly into position.

I nodded at the backhanded compliment as I awaited his next question. His eyes sparkled as he watched me. He held his drink in his left hand, swirling the liquid around in the glass, while never taking his eyes off me.

"Do you interrogate all the new guys at school? Or just the extremely hot ones?" He raised his eyebrows and held a serious expression while I choked on my own saliva. He was definitely drop dead gorgeous, but he was also the most arrogant, conceited person I had ever met and I had barely known him a day.

I rolled my eyes at him. "I interrogate all the suspicious and secretive werewolves with something to hide," I scoffed in response and he glared at me for a second.

I focused my own gaze on his icy blue eyes. The bright orbs held a cold, steely look yet drew me in and warmed me all at once. Our stares were locked on each other, neither of us allowing ourselves to look away.

I could feel a cold wave of dominance radiate off him, sending a shiver over my skin. Instantly, I returned the action with my own hot shards of dominance, sizzling his innards and watching as beads of sweat dotted his forehead.

I narrowed my eyes threateningly, daring him to challenge me again. I was the more dominant one in this situation and nobody competed against me for dominance. His eyes glistened for a moment longer before they dragged away from mine and he moved to stand up.

"Well sweetheart, I will see you at school tomorrow." He furrowed his eyebrows at me before shuffling along the sofa. I knew at that moment I had won, I was the more dominant wolf and he had submitted to that; to me.

"See you around lone wolf," I grumbled and he turned to send me one last smirk before he disappeared out the cafe and I was left in the booth swirling my milkshake, still in the dark about who this guy was and what he was doing here.
