"Dad!" I screamed, slamming the front door, only to be met with silence. "Dad!" I yelled once again. I knew he was home so he must still have been in the office, it was the only place he wouldn't be able to hear my screams.

I sprinted down the hallway and barged into his office to find him and Zach still chatting on the sofa. He stood up abruptly and they both swiftly cut off their conversation. "Ella! What have I told you about knocking?" He yelled but I ignored him.

"Dad, there is a cub in the woods!" I panted, leaning against the wall to support my shaky legs. "It isn't responding and there is blood everywhere. I don't know what happened or who's it is. Me and Jordon were just running and-." I sobbed, unable to finish my sentence as I thought about the lifeless cub bleeding in the woods.

"Oh god. Ok sweetheart, calm down. I will sort it, just stay here." He placed his hands on my shoulders and looked directly into my eyes as he spoke which immediately calmed me down.

Once I managed to control my anxiety, his words registered in my mind. "Let me come with you," I argued. Stay here? How boring. He instantly shook his head in response.

"No. Ella, stay here," he said, much firmer this time but I was determined. I wasn't going to sit around while something was actually happening for once.

"But dad-," I started but he ignored me and shifted his gaze to Zach.

"Can you watch her?" He asked and I felt my jaw drop. Was he kidding? Zach nodded and my father turned back to me. "Ella, you do not leave this house, understand?" I turned my gaze back off Zach to respond to him but he was already gone before I could release a breath. I was left in the house with Zach, with no clue as to what was happening.

Ignoring my dads requests I began heading for the door. "What are you doing?" I heard Zach's voice. It sounded so smooth it sent shivers through my body.

I spun to face him and faked a smile. "I will be back before my father returns," I assured him sweetly and turned back to the office door.

Within seconds, Zach was blocking my way out. "He told you to stay," he reminded me, as if I had forgotten already.

"I know exactly what he said," I replied, making a move to go around him but he side stepped, once again blocking my path.

"He also told me to watch you, so you aren't going," Zach ordered, he gave me a look as if daring me to argue back, but of course I was going to.

"Don't care," I murmured, disinterested in what my father told me. I jolted to the right and ran around Zach to the door. As soon as my hand grasped the handle I was being yanked backwards and spun around so Zach was in between me and the door once again. "Are you serious?!" I yelled.

"Yep." An amused look crossed his face and I made one final ditch effort to get out but once again Zach hauled me away from the door. "Nice try," he whispered, letting go of me.

I huffed and flung myself onto one of the sofas while Zach hovered for a few seconds cautiously before seating himself opposite me. I pulled my phone out and dialled Ryder.

"Hey," he called through the phone.

"Hey. I have a situation," I told him, glancing over at Zach who was grinning at me.

A scowl crossed my face and I glowered at Zach while Ryder asked "what's up?" I was about to explain when I heard his muffled voice say "ok, bye." He sounded further away, as if he was talking to someone else and had placed the phone down.

"Was that your brother?" I asked, hopeful.

"Yeah he just left why?"

"Can you go with him? There was an incident in the woods and I am on house arrest," I grumbled sourly.
