Monday morning rolled around again and I lay, half asleep, waiting for my alarm to go off. My body was wrapped in the warm duvet and curled up in a ball, keeping me from the brisk morning chill.

My eyes remained shut, protected from the blaring sunlight. I felt a weight on my back all of a sudden that forced my body sideways and let out a groan as the weight continued to press down and shake me.

"Wake up sweetheart," Zach's soothing voice rang out beside me. I let out another groan and shuffled further into the warmth of my bed as I rolled over to face him.

His hair was disheveled and flyaway and his eyes were drooping slightly. His lips were contorted into a frown as he looked at me. Behind him, my father stood, also looking exhausted. His face was a pale red shade and his jaw was clenched.

"What's going on?" I grumbled, hauling myself into a sitting position. I watched them share a glance before turning back to me.

My father edged forwards before he spoke. "They are here," he whispered and I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Who's here?" I asked, still half asleep.

"The pack." He gulped and a shiver ran down my spine. They were here. My heart raced and my jaw fell open as I gasped to get air in my lungs. I was breathing but it felt like I was suffocating.

"Hey, Ella it's ok," Zach whispered. Fear shot through me as I thought about the huge pack of werewolves stalking the village. The knot in my stomach tightened as the girl who escaped words rang through my mind. They were here to take me away.

"Ella honey, I need you to get dressed and go with Zach, ok?" My fathers voice was quiet and weak. I stared at the duvet over me and never shifted my focus. He sat beside me and stroked my hair while I remained silent. "Ella, it's going to be ok," he promised and I nodded.

"Ok," I murmured as I stood up and made my way to my closet. I pulled out some leggings and a t-shirt that would be easy to run in and disappeared into the bathroom to change.

When I came back out, my room was empty. I trudged down the stairs with my phone in my hand and went to the kitchen. My stomach ached with fear and sadness when I saw tears in my fathers eyes.

"You are going to go with Zach and I will get rid of them ok?" He pulled me to him and threw his arms around me.

"Ok," I replied and he placed a kiss on my head before pulling away to look at me.

"Ella you need to do whatever Zach says ok? Promise me you will do as you are told." His tone laced with warning as he spoke and I hesitated, having a plan of my own to make sure Zach lived. "Ella," he growled with a warning look contorting his face.

"Ok, I promise." I nodded and he replied with a nod of his own.

"Thank you. You two should go now. Stay safe ok? I love you so much and I will see you later." He kissed my forehead and pulled me into another hug. I swallowed the threatening lump in my throat as I said goodbye to my dad, possibly for good.

"Bye dad. Be careful please, I love you," I mumbled against him but he heard. I finally pulled away and we both turned to Zach.

"Zach, I am trusting you with the most important thing in the world to me, please keep her safe," my dad said, his words clearly threatening. Zach nodded and said he would before my dad continued. "I expect to see you both later." He emphasised the word 'both' and raised his eyebrows at Zach.

"See you later," Zach replied monotonously and I furrowed my brows. They quickly exchanged a hand shake before Zach turned and lead me out the door.

Outside, members of our pack scattered. Children and cubs were flocking towards my home where they are out of the way and safe. The rest of the pack were transformed into their wolves and were positioned around the inner circle, creating a barrier between me and whatever was in front of them.

"Hey," Zach called behind me and I snapped away from the sight in front of me and turned to him. "Lets go." He took my hand in his and started to walk away from my house.

"Where are we going?" I asked him and watched as he surveyed the area.

"Somewhere safe," he replied and I knew it wasn't safe for him to tell me when the other pack were around.

"Have they crossed the borders yet?" I asked him.

"No, the protection wolves that line the border are buying us time to get away but they can't hold them off for long. There are too many of them," he told me, pulling me by my hand, up through the woods and up the mountain.

We continued walking and I remained silent as I couldn't stand hearing the answers to my questions. People would die today, from both packs. The thought of bloodshed because of me made my blood run cold. Anyone that died today would die because of me and it made me sick.

We approached the clearing and Zach slowed to a stop in the centre. "Really? This is the somewhere safe?" I asked and he laughed.

"We are out in the open so I can see anyone before they get anywhere near you," he explained as he took both my hands in his.

I nodded and looked to the ground to avoid his gaze, the tears threatening to fall as I thought about all the outcomes of today. I knew it was impossible to end the day without bloodshed unless I handed myself over to the Alpha.

"It's ok to be scared Ella." Zach lifted my chin to face him and forced a smile. "I'm scared," he admitted and my eyes widened.

"You are?" I asked incredulously and he chuckled slightly.

"Yes. I never used to be scared of anything but the thought of losing you petrifies me." He laughed shakily and I flung against his chest, throwing my arms around his waist.

He pulled his arms around me and held me tightly against him. "Its ok," he whispered as I sobbed into his broad chest. My tears fell freely and soaked through his shirt as my hands clung to the back of it.

"I'm scared," I finally admitted, the very fear coursing through every vein in my body. "I don't want to go with them," I cried and his grip tightened.

"I know baby, I promise you wont," he whispered, his hands raking through my hair soothingly.

"What if they hurt you?" I sobbed. The thought of anything happening to Zach made my heart split in two. I would never forgive myself if he was hurt protecting me. "I don't know what to do," I cried and he pulled away to face me.

"You don't have to do anything. Just let me protect you ok?" He asked and I nodded.

"What about you?" I desperately needed him to be ok.

"Sweetheart, I will be fine. I won't let anything happen to us. Besides, I have only had one taste of you and believe me sweetheart, that is not enough." He smirked and I flicked my tears away and laughed softly.

"I'm serious," I scolded and his smirk grew.

"So am I." He grinned and I rolled my eyes. "Listen, you will be ok and so will I. I just need you to do what I say ok? Please?" His eyes sparkled with tears as he spoke and I knew he was scared I would ignore his instructions and endanger myself.

"I will," I assured him and he smiled before pulling me back into his embrace.

"I love you," he whispered.

"I love you too." My voice was muffled against his shirt but he heard me.

"Stay in my arms for a bit longer," he pleaded and I nodded before snuggling into his chest and basking in his warmth.
