I finally decided to head back to the house and was more than relieved to get home without bumping into any of my friends. Straight away, I headed to my bedroom and curled up on my bed with the TV remote and a box of chocolates I stole from my dad a while back. I wrapped my blanket around me and sunk into the bed while I browsed Netflix for something to watch.
After watching a couple of episodes of a show about supernaturals, I heard footsteps coming up the stairs and quickly shoved the chocolates under my pillow. Seconds later my dad burst into the room like my door was the only thing between him and world domination and he threw himself on the end of my bed.
"Hey, everything ok?" I asked, pausing the TV and eyeing him with a curious look.
"Everything is fine, I just wanted to let you know Zach and I are going out for a walk, I will see you later," he told me. From the way the vein on his forehead was pulsing, everything definitely wasn't fine but there was no point fishing with my father.
"Can I come?" I asked instead, hoping desperately for a no which would mean it was private and the perfect opportunity for some answers.
"Sorry honey, we have some things to discuss," he replied, sending me a 'don't bother to ask' kind of look.
"Ok, see you later." I leaned forward and kissed his cheek before he stood to leave the room.
"Oh, and don't try and hide chocolate from a werewolf," he called behind him, smirking at me as he closed the door.
I waited a few minutes for the front door to close and then sprinted to the office, closing the door so they couldn't hear me from outside.
"Ryder?" I asked as soon as he picked up.
"Hey, El. Listen, sorry about earlier we didn't-," he started but I cut him off.
"Yeah its ok. My dad and Zach have gone for a walk to discuss 'things'." I told him, hoping he understood my point.
"Where shall we meet?" He asked, reading my mind. I let out a sigh of relief that he had dropped our previous topic and was the usual light hearted Ryder. I hated the heavy stuff, I just needed space and then for everyone to pretend nothing happened.
"Ry, we have to be careful, if my dad catches us we are dead meat. Quite literally. How far do you have to be from a wolf to avoid them picking up your scent but still in hearing distance?" I asked him.
"I have no clue," he replied snorting derogatorily. "Blake will know."
"Ok, I will call Blake, meet me outside in 5 minutes," I told him, ending the call and dialling Blake.
"Hello?" He asked.
"Blake its me. I need to pick your brain," I rushed out.
"Ok whats up?" He asked.
"How far would I have to be from my father to avoid him picking up my scent?"
"2 maybe 3 miles- since you're his cub I would say 3, why?" He asked. I worked really hard to keep the snarl from escaping as the word cub echoed in my head. I am not a cub.
"I'm about to get some answers," I muttered, hanging up before he could ask.
I ran out the door and over to Ryders house and he was soon outside. We started walking towards the woods and we immediately picked up on their trail and stopped for a while.
"I can't smell them anymore," Ryder whispered and I sniffed and nodded. We started to follow the trail in the direction they were heading and I listened in to their conversation.
