"Can we go to the cafe?" I begged Zach as we left school.

"No," he grunted. We crossed the town, fingers interlocked with the rest of our friends ahead of us.

"Please," I begged, popping my bottom lip out.

"Don't-."

"Pleeeeeaaaassseeeee," I interrupted. "Just a quick drink?"

"Ella-."

"Zach," I pleaded.

He let out a groan and scowled down at me angrily before nodding. I let out a relieved squeal before placing a peck on his lips, just happy to be able to go somewhere other than home or school. I was getting sick and tired of spending all my time at home and needed to stay away just a little longer. I dragged Zach to the cafe and the rest of our friends followed. We all filed into our booth after ordering our drinks and began chatting.

After a while, the door to the cafe burst open and a girl not much older than us rushed in. She had scrawny blond hair that matted down her back, her face had patches of dirt and grime over it. Her dim, grey eyes were hooded and dark purple bags hung beneath them. Her skin was pale and her entire body was scrawny.

All of us snapped our heads to face the door to see her enter. "What?" Mason asked beside me.

"Wolf," I told him, staring as the girl scanned the room. She held a strong wolf scent and I knew she lived wildly. She sniffed and then her gaze shot to us. Everyone in the cafe whispered and stared as she beelined for us.

Zach's grip on my hand tightened instantly when she halted at our booth. "I'm looking for Ella Reed," she explained and my heart hammered in my chest. Her voice was rough and hoarse and she spoke quietly. She sounded frail and weak.

"Why?" I asked her and her gaze snapped to me. Her dim grey eyes held fear and anger as they bore into my soul.

"I need to speak to you, alone. Meet me in the woods," she instructed and with that, she was gone. I shared a confused glance amongst my friends before shuffling along the sofa.

"You aren't going." Zach demanded, in an obvious tone.

"You're not the least bit curious about what the hell she wants?" I asked, eyebrows raised.

He let out a sigh before nodding. "We are all going," he stated and just as I opened my mouth to remind him she said alone, he cut me off. "No arguments." He glared at me before allowing me to get up.

Mason waited in the cafe where he was safe while the rest of us searched the woods for the girl. Her scent was burning my nose and I knew she was close by. "I said come alone," the same coarse voice spoke behind me. I spun to face her as Zach tensed at my side.

"Wasn't an option." I scoffed. "What do you want?" I asked, slightly abruptly.

"I came to warn you," she stated and I squeezed Zach hands.

"Warn her?" Ryder asked, he leant against a tree to my left beside Caroline and Jordan, looking very relaxed while the rest of us stood, tense and ready to fight.

"Yes. Don't go with Alpha Dean," she warned. I noticed her eyes well up at the unfamiliar name.

"Alpha Dean?" I asked, pretty sure I knew the answer.

"The Alpha that wants you," Zach grunted and I nodded, desperately wishing that wasn't the case.

"Don't go with him," she repeated, her voice wavering.

"Why?" I asked out of curiosity.

"He came for me a few years ago, I tried everything to get away but he is too strong and too smart, he was always one step ahead. He will make your life hell and once you're in you wont ever get out." Her voice cracked and she swallowed vigorously. I noticed her avoiding eye contact with me and her fists were clenched.

"What did he do to you?" Jordan asked her, sympathy was evident in her tone.

"I was chained up in his study and when he got angry, I was..." She paused and took a shaky breath. "...his human punch bag. He would beat me and starve me every day," she sobbed, tears now trickling down her face and she squeezed her eyes shut.

Zach pulled me into his chest and I clung to his shirt. The knot in my stomach tightened and tears threatened to fall. My breath was shaky and my entire body trembled with fear.

"How did you get away?" Caroline asked. All of my friends were looking at me while I cuddled closer to Zach.

"A few months ago, another prisoner let me out and I ran. She was my friend and when the Alpha didn't want me around, I would stay in the cell next to hers. That night, the guards came and she attacked them, she couldn't come with me because she was protecting her family but she helped me escape," she explained, tears rolled down her cheeks. "Her name was Rachel."

"Oh my god." Ryder pressed his body off the tree and stared at me. The girls words rang through my head over and over. My jaw dropped to the ground and the tears now gushed down my face.

"You knew my mother," I breathed, my lip quivering as the sobs escaped.

"You're Rachels daughter? I knew you looked familiar," she replied, a smile overtaking her features as the tears continued to pour.

I thought back to what she said. My mother was kind and helped her escape. My mother stayed to protect me. My mother had stayed in a cell. This girl escaped a few months ago so...

"Wait, you said she let you escape a few months ago..?" I sobbed, the tears continued to cascade down my cheeks.

"Yes." She nodded and I couldn't hold in my cries and wails any longer.

"She was alive all this time," I cried and Zach's arms snaked around me. "They killed her recently! I thought the video was old!" I screamed. All this time my dad searched for her and assumed she was dead. All this time she had been locked in a cage and tortured. All this time we could've got her back.

She could've escaped that night. She could've come home. But she didn't. She let this girl go and then they killed her.

"They killed her because she let you go!" I screamed, running towards her. She was the reason my mother was dead. Her escape got her killed. If she had stayed then my mom would be alive and the pack wouldn't be after me. "You caused all of this! They want me because you left! They killed her because you left!" I lunged at her, reaching my hands for her throat.

She got my mom killed. She got my mom killed. She was the reason my mom was dead. Its her fault. Thats all my mind kept saying, over and over again.

Just as I was about to reach her, my body was yanked backwards. The arms that were snaked around my waist now clung to my struggling body. "Let me go!" I ordered, screaming and kicking to get to the girl.

"I'm so sorry. I am so so sorry." She kept sobbing over and over but I didn't care. All my anger built up inside of me and I was desperate for some sort of release.

"Ella. Calm down," Zach's soothing voice ordered behind me. I turned in his arms so I was facing him and began hitting and punching against his chest. I couldn't stop, it was like my hands were no longer controlled by my brain. "You should go," he told the girl and I heard feet padding against the floor as I continued to thud against Zach's chest.

"She could've come home," I screamed, the tears stinging my eyes as my fists continued to pound at Zach.

"I know baby, it's ok," he whispered before I collapsed into his arms and soaked his shirt with my tears. "Sh, its ok." He wrapped his arms around me and cradled me until my tear ducts ran dry.
