I sat in the booth, completely frozen. The tears threatened to fall down my cheeks but I sucked them back in, I refused to cry about this and show weakness. I had come too far. I composed myself before pushing up off the booth.
"What do you think you are doing?" Zach hissed, pulling on my arm and causing my to stumble back onto the seat.
"I only have 15 minutes," I told him. I once again tried to scramble to my feet but Zach's grip tightened.
"You aren't going," he stated, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. My jaw dropped at his words.
"What?" Both me and Ryder gasped at the same time. "You are joking?" I asked, hoping that he was.
"Ella, he wants to take you, you aren't going," he ordered, continuing to grip my arm and hold me in place.
"He will kill my brother," Ryder hissed.
"My job isn't to care about anyone else, my job is to protect Ella, so she isn't going," Zach grunted.
"He is the only family I have left," Ryder practically pleaded while I continued to struggle in Zach's grip.
"Well, I'm sorry for your loss," he grumbled and with that, Ryder was snarling and scrambling over the table. Instantly Zach retaliated and soon their eyes flashed.
I shoved Ryder back across the table with my free hand and then Caroline and Jordan grabbed onto him while I grasped Zach's face. "That's enough!" I ordered and both of them shifted back to completely human. "We can't do this here," I hissed and we all climbed out of the booth.
Zach refused to let go of my arm as we made our way out of the cafe and into the woods. Once we stopped Ryder turned back to Zach and continued to growl and snarl at him.
"I said enough!" I roared and they both shut the hell up. I turned to Zach who was glaring at me with his 'don't bother to argue' look. "Zach, I won't let anyone die for me," I stated firmly. I was determined to win this one.
"You aren't going," he demanded, his tone was stern.
"The longer we stand here arguing, the less time I have to get to Tyler," I growled.
"You. Aren't. Going." He yelled, grasping my other hand so he held me tightly against him.
"We need a plan," Caroline suggested.
"She is right. We need a way to get Tyler out, unharmed and stop this guy from taking Ella," Alexia agreed and I nodded.
"Well you geniuses better get thinking because no way in hell am I letting her go near that house unless I know she is coming out alive and unharmed. Understood?" Zach barked from behind me.
"We don't want her to get hurt any more than you do," Jordan explained calmly.
I struggled to turn around in Zach's grip but managed to face him. I pulled my hand out of his grip and up to his chin. "Hey, I need you to trust me, ok?" I whispered, placing a kiss on his lips, knowing that would get to him.
Obviously, Zach knew me too well because he instantly pulled away and glared at me. "Nice try. I don't trust you, not with this. I know when it comes to someone else's life you will do whatever it takes and I will not let you go with them." His tone sounded threatening and I knew he would do whatever it took to save me.
"Ryder is my best friend. I grew up with him," I told him, "him and Tyler. He's all Ryder has left and I won't let him die," I said with finality.
We spent the next ten minutes coming up with different plans, all of which Zach refused. Soon we were running out of time and had to piece together a risky plan with a lot that could go wrong.
"No," Zach said, grabbing onto my arm and pulling me aside. "No way, this is too dangerous."
"Zach," I said, wrestling out of his hold, "I love you. But you need to get out of my way."
"I. Am. Not. Letting. You. Go," he growled, shaking his head.
"I'm not asking," I said, folding my arms over my chest. "I would never let someone get hurt to help me and if you really love me, you won't force me to stay."
He grit his teeth, taking long deep breaths before pulling me to him and taking my lips in his. We kissed for the longest time possible before coming up for air.
"I swear if you try anything, I will kill you," he warned, pressing his forehead to mine. I knew he didn't trust me and didn't blame him since I would happily jeopardise the plan if someone could get hurt. I simply nodded at his threat and took a step back.
"No fighting!" I warned both him and Ryder. "I swear if one of them tell me you fought I will kill whoever started it," I warned them before turning to Ryder. "He will be ok," I promised.
He nodded in response and I turned to leave. "Ella!" He called and I spun back. "Be careful ok? I will never forgive myself if something happens to you." I smiled and nodded before taking off into the woods. I only had a few minutes left to get to Ryders house, which was plenty of time but I didn't want to scare Tyler.
I approached the house and slowly made my way to the front door. My arm shook as I reached out to grasp the handle and steadily, I twisted my wrist until I heard the familiar click. I pushed the door open and slowly stepped into the house, cautious about where the man would be. Once I was fully inside, I pressed the door shut and glanced around.
I used to come to this house all the time. My mom and dad would bring me and I would play with Ryder while they talked to his dad. Tyler would always tease me and pick on me but he was like a big brother to me and he always looked out for me when I needed him.
I thought about when I was 5 and one of the older cubs cornered me. He was growling at me and prowling towards me, still in human form but his eyes blazed a fiery yellow and his sharp fangs flashed at me. I couldn't stop crying as the boy came closer and closer, threatening to kill me. Out of nowhere, Tylers wolf appeared, snarling at the boy. He clawed at him and scared him away before taking me home to my dad, who scared the crap out of the boy who tried to attack me.
"Down here," I heard the taunting voice sing from downstairs, jolting me out of my thoughts. I tiptoed along the hallway and stopped at the basement door. My clammy hands reached for the handle and my heart stopped as I pulled the door open. Swallowing the hard lump in my throat, I started my descent to the basement, continuing to take deep breaths. I reached the bottom and turned to face the scene in front of me.
A man around the age of 40 stood in between Tyler and me. He had dark hair with hints of grey amongst it, his locks long and shaggy. His dark brown, almost black eyes held a victorious glint when they landed on me. He towered high above me and appeared to have quite large muscles, I wasn't sure if I could beat him in a fight. In his right hand, he held a gun that aimed directly at Tyler.
Tyler was sat on the floor in the corner of the dark room, tied to the wall with chains that clamped around his wrists. I immediately ran to him and hugged him tightly. "Ella, run," he ordered but I ignored him and turned back to the man with the gun.
"You can let him go now," I snapped but the man simply laughed.
"Do I look like I was born yesterday sweetheart? You think I will just let him go and then you can run?" He laughed and thats when two more men descended down the stairs. My gaze instantly fell to the guns in their hands as they approached us.
"No! You said you would let him go if I came, and I'm here so let him go!" I demanded, my voice sounded weak and pleading.
"I never said I would let him go. I said I wouldn't kill him, and I haven't." He smirked at me.
"If you don't let him go, I'll-."
"You'll what?" He cut me off as he laughed in my face, causing my rage to fester rapidly. "What will you do sweetheart? You're surrounded." I looked to the only escape and the two men stood, guns pointed directly at me. I gulped as I realised he was winning. "Stay with him," the man ordered the other two. "If she runs, shoot him." His eyes twinkled with amusement and I could tell he was daring me to try something.
I had no doubt in my mind he would kill Tyler if I so much as struggled.
