"This is it," you said solemnly, the blood drained from your face. "I'm dead."

The healer laughed and patted you on the back. "You're overreacting, young one. Everything will be fine. Tell the father and marry him. In eight months, you'll have a child."

Oh, how you wished it were that simple. The healer lead you out of the building and gave you gentle push out the door. The streets were bustling with elves, the buildings were tall and magnificent. Ancient trees loomed over, making a canopy of green. Just think, the heir of this all was inside of you.

What would Thranduil think? More importantly, what would King Oropher think? You feared that elf with your life. It was funny how much you loved his son to get yourself stuck in this chaos. You were only four hundred and thirty-nine, the youngest of adults in elven years. The father of your soon-to-come royal child was your senior by only three decades. Both of you were far too young to be parents. You hadn't even finished your studies yet.

It was your father, a noble that worked with the king, that introduced you to the charming young prince at the Feast of Starlight a few years before. The two of you instantly became infatuated with one another and danced the night away. Seeing he was a prince with very high expectations, your romance was kept secret from then on. No one knew now, but everyone would sooner than later, starting with Oropher.

It was a mere month ago when your love blinded the two of you from consequences. The intimate bonding that night was the most precious moment of your life. How could something so great lead to this? A week prior to this day, you acknowledged that your cycle was yet to come. You feared the worst, waited a few days to make yourself sure, and went to the healers behind your parents' backs. Now you were here, and you had a lot to do.

"Thranduil," you squeaked. Your lover was in the middle of a spar with one of his friends, and winning. Normally, you would wait until the fight was finished to speak with him, but right now you had gathered up the courage, and you feared it would leave you if you waited too long. "Thranduil, I need to speak with you."

Grinning, the prince looked at you. When he saw your serious and watering eyes, he immediately dismissed his opponent and rushed over.

"What's wrong, meleth nin?" he asked softly, taking your hands in his. "Who caused you these tears? I'll kill them."

You laughed at the irony of his words, but that only caused more tears to come to your eyes. Thranduil pulled you in for a hug, but you quickly backed away. You had to see his reaction once you told him.

"(Y/n)?" he said, hurt and confused.

"Do you remember that night last month ago?" you asked whilst shaking.

"You mean the best night of our lives? How could I forget?" He laughed. "If your asking to do it again, I don't see why you're so afraid."

"No, no," you said quickly, only making him more confused. "I mean, I would love to do it again, but I have something important to tell you."

"Okay, what is it?"

"First I need to ask, do you love me?"

"To the stars and back, my love," he said adoringly.

"I'm..."

He reached out for you again. Before his fingertips could touch your arms you announced loud and clear, "I'm with child!"

Thranduil froze. Oh no, you thought to yourself.

"Mine?" He asked.

You burst into tears. "Yes, it's yours, Thranduil! Who's else would it be?"

"No..."

You burried your face in your hands, letting the tears fall freely. You weren't expecting it when you felt Thranduil's strong arms wrap around you. He buried his face in your hair, taking deep breaths. You wrapped your arms around his neck and sobbed.

"I'm so sorry..." you choked.

"We are both to blame, meleth nin."

The two of you stayed quite for many minutes, just holding each other. Eventually, Thranduil backed out of the embrace, put his hands on your shoulders, and kneeled down to be eye level with you.

"We will get through this, (y/n)," he promised. "Together."

"How?" you asked, your vision blurred with tears of shame and anguish.

"We'll talk to our parents and seek approval," he explained. "Then I will marry you and you will give birth to the future ruler of Mirkwood."

"But, Thranduil," you cried. "What will the people think? What will your father think?"

"I don't care what the people think, but I know they will love you," he said and cupped your face. "As for my father, if he doesn't like us, I will give up the throne and run away with you. We can go anywhere you want and start our family."

You cried more. This was all a mistake. A scandal. How could something so harmless and wonderful lead to this?

"(Y/n), I don't think you understand how much I love you," Thranduil said seriously yet tenderly. "I wouldn't just give up my title for you, I would give my life to see you happy and safe. And when our child is born, I will love our family and be the best father I can. I don't care whether or not we get a boy or a girl- I will raise them to be strong and beautiful, like you. The only question is if you'll do it all with me."

You two could have ruined your lives during that night one month ago. How could he be so fine with this? It was then that you knew that Thranduil was a good elf, and that he would keep you and your child safe from harm and never leave you alone. You leaned in and placed a soft kiss on his lips.

"I will," you promised. "Amin mele lle, Thranduil. More than words can say."
