"Hang in there, (y/n)," someone said. Your senses weren't sharp enough to tell who.
Your eyes were open, but everything was dark and blurry. Your feet weren't on the floor. You reached up to identify who was carrying you. It sent needles of pain down your side, but your fingers met the silky locks of your brother, Legolas.
"What happened?" you asked with a wince.
He set your hand back on your stomach. "You were hit by the cave troll in Moria. I believe your ribs are broken and you're losing a lot of blood."
You tried to twist around to see the rest of the Fellowship. "Is everyone else-"
"Don't worry about us, sister," he insisted, his arm nudging you to look back at him. "Focus on your breathing, and keep looking at me."
The trek went on for what seemed like years. You faded in and out of consciousness, Legolas ushering you to stay awake each time you closed your eyes. It became harder and harder to do so as the sky above turned orange.
Not long after, you couldn't resist the darkness pulling at you, and your eyes slid shut. But you weren't dead yet. The next thing you knew, you had been reluctantly put on the mossy ground. Legolas stood protectively above you, bow drawn and ready to fire at any moment.
"The dwarf breathes so loud," a silver voice said, "we could have shot him in the dark."
Alarmed, you pushed your chest of the ground. It caused tree roots to rub against your raw side, and you could not help but let out a deep and agonizing groan.
Legolas looked down at you just as you gagged up dark blood. The sudden motion had been too much for your body to handle.
Eyes glassy and lips bloody, you looked up at whoever dared to cause the Fellowship such panic. He was a tall ellon with blonde hair dressed in gray garbs. His blue eyes met yours, and you held his gaze with what little strength you had. It was a silent, desperate plead for help.
"Come," he told the others.
Legolas scooped you back up into his arms. "(Y/n)?" he said frantically. "Hold on just a bit longer."
"I can't," you whimpered and fell asleep once more.
"Welcome Legolas, son of Thranduil," Haldir said, extending his arm in an elvish way of greeting. His eyes darted anxiously to your limp body.
Legolas was barely containing his fury and impatience, but he forced himself to say in a composed tone, "Our Fellowship stands in your debt, Haldir of Lorien."
Haldir looked over the Fellowship in the lamplight, particularly over you, limp in Legolas's arms. Even though you were bloodied, beaten, and near death, he could see your beauty.
His eyes went to Frodo and widened. "You bring great evil with you," he said and looked subtly at you. You needed a healer, but if the Fellowship refused to separate, you could not enter, not with what that Halfling possessed. "You can go no further."
Aragorn immediately tried to reason with Haldir. "Princess (y/n) will die if her wounds are not treated!" he whisper-shouted. "How do you expect her father will react when he hear his daughter died when the elves of Lothlorien could have saved her?"
"The wrath of King Thranduil is nothing compared to the power of the Ring," Haldir retorted, trying not to seem too sentimental. On the inside, he was dying, knowing that he was letting you die. "I will not let it anywhere near my people."
