21. More Truth

Maymay is staring outside of the car window as they enter the highway that will bring them back to the city. She is wearing sunglasses that covers half of her face because she's trying to hide the puffiness, especially under her eyes. She was crying all night, and though she tried her best not to, she just couldn't beg her tears to stop rolling down her cheeks.

"Tomorrow, I will tell lolo and lola that we will all move back to the city. My job needs me.." he begins.

Maymay remains silent. She's afraid that if she dares to speak, Edward will hear her sobs and just further hurt her.

"And I really hope you just agree. After all, I have been separated from EJ for so long, I don't think I can bear to be away from her again. When we get back to Manila, we can make arrangements then... I just can't bear to be away from Ella anymore." His voice is pleading.

She just doesn't have the heart to say no, so she answers with, "Okay." Partly, she still feels guilty for not telling Edward about Ella.

"And May, bring all your lingerie back to Manila.. There is no point of having them here if we are not here." he sighs.

And Maymay swears, he sounded a bit defeated. "Okay." she answers again. But this time, a sob escaped her throat as well. Her sob is audible enough, that it made Edward turn around and faced her.

"Oh, shit." he mutters as he moves his body closer to her. He cradles her face with his hands, and using his thumbs, he wipes her tears away. "Why are you crying?" he asks.

"Because of you. You asshole." she cries deeper as she buries her face in Edward's chest. "One moment, you're so warm and welcoming.. and all about me. And then, the next, you're cold as ice." she sobs. "And I am getting tired, Edward. I can't.. I--"

Edward pulls her closer, "Shh.. I'm sorry, love." he pulls his upper body away, but only enough for him to see her face. "I'm sorry.. I was just.." he sighs. "Damn it, why was Tanner here? And how did he know about our daughter? And is that why you have your lingerie here? For him?" he asks, frustration clear in his voice.

Maymay pushes his chest away, "Why would you think that?!!!" she cries, a bit louder now, but only enough for both of them to hear. After all, she does not want to wake up the whole household.

"Why was he here, May?" he asks again, firmness now clear in his voice.

"To visit."

Edward snickers, "Oh yeah? Both you and my daughter? Because damn it, May.. it hurt me that you kept EJ a secret from me, but what I saw when I went downstairs earlier to check on you and Tanner was truly heart breaking, and before I knew it, my vision went dark."

Maymay sighs and looks deeply into the eyes of the man she loves, "You were... jealous?" she asks, uncertain.

"Yes.."

Maymay's heart wants to jump in triumph, but her joy was cut short with Edward's words.

"...I am EJ's father, May. And Tanner just happens to be carrying my child earlier as if she is his own? And.." he chuckled darkly, ".. the three of you looks so perfect as a family."

Maymay stares at him in disbelief followed by her laughs that sounded sarcastic and empty. "There was a time when I hated Tanner, and I was scared of him too. After the prom incident back in high school, I didn't see him anymore, and you know that, because we were inseparable." She looks into his eyes, "But I got pregnant, and after having EJ.. it was hard, Edward. I.." she chokes on her tears.
