29. Surprise

"Fatherhood looks good on you, bro." Marco comments.

All their friends came in the late afternoon. The Barbers have been there since the morning, while the Entratas came about lunch time.

"Thanks, man." he happily replies.

"Although, my heart still hurts that Maymay didn't even ask me to be EJ's Ninong." He acts like his heart is breaking.

"Long story, bro. But for the next one, you will definitely be a Ninong." he comments.

"Oh, hey Marco." Maymay greets as she gets to their table. She has been hopping from table to table with EJ since everyone wants to meet her. "Baby, he's your Tito Marco." she introduces them.

"Yeah, could've been your Ninong though. I'm hurt, May. I've known you both since high school." And although Marco is smiling, pain is evident in his voice.

"I'm sorry, Marco." she apologizes, "Don't worry, for our next one, you will be the only Ninong."

That brightens up his face, "Yay! Come, give me EJ and you two make a baby already. I want to be a Ninong as soon as possible." he laughs.

Maymay and Edward shared a look and laughed shortly after.

"Papa!!!" EJ raises her arms, and motions to be transferred to Edward.

Edward happily takes her, "Yes, baby?"

"I.. sleepy..." she yawns.

"She missed her nap time because everyone wanted to meet her." Maymay explains.

"Should I put her to bed first? And have her blow her cake later?" he asks.

Maymay contemplates for a bit, but agrees soonafter. "Sure. Do you want me to put her to sleep? or ask my parents or yours?"

Edward looks at the table beside them where his parents and hers are gathered around. They all look so happy catching up and talking as if the last three painful years of their life didn't happen. Maymay follows his eyes and also begins to think how blessed they are to fall back together again.

"They seem busy.. and happy. It's okay, love. I'll put EJ to bed." he stands up and plants his lips on her forehead. "I love you." he whispers against her temple.

"I love you too, Edward."

In the middle of EJ's nap, Laura came and offered to watch after their little angel. She informs him that everyone is looking for him and Maymay. And also their little EJ, so she came to check whether she's really asleep or Edward just doesn't want to share her to the world.

"Little brother?" Laura calls his attention.

"Yeah?" he asks while stretching his legs since he's been in bed with EJ while she's been napping.

"Promise me you will never ever ever leave Maymay again." she asks sincerely. "I can't ask you to promise not to hurt her, because you will. That is just how life works, but if you leave her again--"

Edward cuts her off by leaning down on her and kissing her hair, "I won't sis. I won't."

"By the way, when EJ wakes up, text me. I'm going to do something later, and I need EJ there." he smiles.

"I can't believe how fast you are, bro. Like, a baby, for real?" Yong laughs.

"I'm so happy for both of you." Fenech adds.

"Thank you." Maymay shyly answers.

Only Yong, Marco, Aizan and Fenech made it to Subic. Vivoree couldn't make it because of prior commitments. Though Marco is certain that she is avoiding everybody because she just can't save face after what she did.
