~Violet's POV~
I gasped as I jerked awake at the sound of the alarm on my phone going off on my bedside table, my heart hammering in my chest. I quickly shut the loud noise off, feeling a little stupid for always waking up in a panic when my alarm went off. I crawled out of bed, my black blanket slightly dropping off the side of my bed as I walked into the bathroom.
I hopped into the shower, wondering how the day would go. See, today was my first day of Senior year in high school and I wasn't really looking forward to it. I didn't talk to anybody, except for my best-friend, Lexa. We'd been best-friends since I was eight and she was eleven, so she had graduated already and gone off to college. That meant I was all alone this year.
I'm currently seventeen, turning eighteen in a little over three months.
When I finished my shower, I got out and dried off before getting dressed. I slipped on my undergarments before pulling on a pair of black high-waisted skinny jeans, a black crop-top, and a pair of socks and my black converse. I wasn't really a fan of wearing color, obviously, though my favorite color was red.
I tossed everything I needed into my bag and swiped on some mascara quickly. I liked makeup, but I just didn't see the point in wearing a full face of it to school. I felt like I would end up looking like a sweaty mess by the end of the day because it gets so hot inside the school, so instead I just saved it until I was at home.
I left my house, which was empty aside from me, and locked the door. My parents were both doctors, so they worked pretty odd hours and were gone before I was awake, usually. I began my walk to school since I didn't have a car, my bag softly shifting across my back. I arrived within twenty minutes and headed inside, already beginning to form a headache.
The second I walked through the front doors, I felt like receding into myself. Students littered the hallways, shoving through the crowd to find their friends while I tried to politely maneuver my way into the front office to get my schedule. I eventually got my schedule and immediately went off to my first class, which was a computer class in room 202.
It had taken me so long to get my schedule that by the time I found room 202, the bell went off to go to class right as I entered the room. The loud noise made me slightly jolt in surprise, causing a few students that were already in the room to snicker at me. I pretended I didn't just do that and instead took a seat at a computer, pushing my backpack beneath the desk.
The class was a lot easier than I'd thought it'd be when I found out what it was. It turned out, it was really just a typing class, something I didn't need any practice on. Before the bell went off to leave to second period, I quickly checked my schedule and saw I had Spanish 3 next.
I headed upstairs where my classroom was a took a seat at the back of the room, which was currently dark because there were no lights on. I was also the only one here yet, aside from the teacher as he sat at his desk on his laptop. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting. More people began piling into the room and one of them flicked on the light on the way, causing the teacher's head to shoot up.
"Who the hell turned the light on?" He frowned, and my brows raised in surprise a little. My jaw dropped slightly when he said, "Well? Turn that shit off!"
Someone flicked the light back off and then, "My name's Mr. Alisandro. I'm your Spanish 3 teacher for the year." He introduced into the dark classroom. I furrowed my brows, not sure what the hell was going on as Mr. Alisandro shut the classroom door. "You're probably wondering what the hell is happening." He said, to which someone snorted.
Mr. Alisandro ignored them, "This class can either be very easy or very difficult. I'd like to just watch movies, which we will, but if you guys don't shut up and pay attention, we'll do actual work." He explained, causing a few people to cheer. Mr. Alisandro turned on the lights and began taking attendance, which I tuned out until he called my name.
"Violet." He called, and my head snapped up. I waited, as if there was possibly another person named Violet before I said, "Here." He continued, "Luke?" He spoke out, but there was no answer. Mr. Alisandro waited a few seconds, "No Luke...Hemmings?" He asked, and again there was no answer. I briefly wondered who Luke was, and why he was absent on the first day of school.
By the time lunch rolled around, I still didn't have any friend, or acquaintance at the very least, to keep me company during lunch. I took one look at the very full, very busy cafeteria and turned right around, heading outside to sit on the ground instead.
The day finished quickly, and I learned something. I had five out of eight classes with whoever Luke Hemmings was, none of which he attended. While I walked home, it began softly sprinkling, cold little droplets of water hitting my arm. I tilted my head down, watching my feet kill the distance between me and my house as the sound of cars whizzing by filled my ears.
I was lucky that day, I think. Not even five minutes after I got home, it began pouring outside.
