Odette

After she had her break down to Emma, Odette walked to her room.

There was only one way to get to her room and that was to pull down the latter to the attic. Then when you have climbed up that, turn to the door to the right.

She had been staying there for about three years after her accident. The room is nice and a decent size for one person. Her room is light blue and had only one window. The ceiling was slanted at an angle. Little paper birds hung from the ceiling.

She had chosen this room because it was quite and out of the way. No one but her and the boy next door come up in the attic.

Odette looked at the pictures in her room and they reminded her that she didn't have a good childhood. She picked up the picture of her parents before they had passed.

Her father had black curly hair and blue eyes. He had a sharp nose and high cheekbones, that Odette had inherited. He was a strong and brave man, that was put in the worrier category when he was a teen.

Her mother, on the other hand, had more soft feathery blond hair and brown eyes. Her father always said were the most beautiful eyes he had ever seen.

Her mother was the bata's daughter of the wild herd. But, both her parents wanted a smaller role in the herd so her brother took the role. But, he soon left for other things when Kaden became alpha.

She decided to be a cook. It was a hard job cooking for two-hundred people and only four other people to help you but, she loved it.

Looking back made her feel guilty that when they died that she got in with the wrong crowded at school. The hurt she felt and all the changes around her made her snap. Her brother thought it would be good to send her away to clear her head and get away for the spot of her parent's death.

When she got to her uncle's herd she became aggressive to others and had the attitude of hating everything. She drank, took pills she had no idea what they were and did almost every drug she could get her hands on. But, one day she overdosed.

After that, she changed. The doctor told her uncle that her whole personality would change and she may have some mental problems along the way. She was no longer outgoing but more quiet and lonely. Her friends were no longer her friends and she started to well in school. More then she had before. But, she cut herself off from the world.

School was too stressful for her. She often had stress-related outbursts and the other students had started rumors about her. He uncle made a deal with her that she would be going back to her father's herd as long as she visited every month and called him twice a week. He called Kaden to arrange everything with him. She would do online classes and help around the herd when needed. She was to be treated as any other herd member except for the monthly visits, that broke the rule of staying on herd territory.

Odette looked around and her eyes landed on her phone. She told her uncle everything that was going on in her life but, her resent crises. The guilt was eating her alive. She told her uncle everything and hide something from him was something she had never done before.

She started chewing on her fingernails. Biting them to the nail bed.

She knew she should tell him. He was the only person she could trust now that her brother had gone up and left her for the UK.

Picking up her phone she dialed her uncle's number.

"Bete Thatcher speaking," his monotone voice ran through the phone.

"If I tell you something will you please just stay and talk to me and not tell anyone else?" Odette asked in a rush, wanting to get this off her chest.

"Hi to you to Odette." He chuckled.

"Please Thatcher. This is serious." She said as she began to bite her fingernails once again.

"Yes, I will."

"Promise on your children's lives?" Her voice came out shaky and she started to pick at her eyebrows.

"Odette, I don't have children."

"Just say it." she huffed.

"I promise on my children's lives." He said with a smile on his face. "So what's up."

"Thatcher." she sighed trying to get rid of the tears. "I found my mate." Her voice broke as she said that. Picturing in her mind of him kissing Emma.

"So I'm assuming that that is a bad thing." His voice came out strained. "What's wrong?"

"He loves someone else," the other line went dead silent. "He... He made a mate bond with her. He doesn't even see that I'm his mate." Odette cried. Tears ran down her face as she whimpered. She now resorting to scratching her arm compulsively as she held the phone with her shoulder.

"I'm coming down," Thatcher said.

"You can't."

"Why? You are clearly upset and I made a promise to my brother that I would take care of you." He huffed as he always did when he felt a "fatherly mood swing" come on. "How dare he not see the beauty in front of him." Anger seeped into his voice.

Odette smiled slightly at his protectiveness. She slid on her bed and landed on her back. She put the phone on speaker. "Thatcher, I...I.. love him."

"I know you do. He is your mate. But, I don't care who he is I want him dead." He huffed.

There was a silence that filled the air. Odette started to twirling her hair with her finger. A nervous tick she always had.

"I want you to come and visit me. I'm calling Kaden now." Before Odette could say anything the line when quiet and she knew he had hung up on her.

Odette sighed. She rolled over to look out the window that was across the room. Her stomach started to twist and not out of nerviness. But, she knew she had nothing to worry about.

Thatcher had called Kaden at least once a week to let her pass the border to his. But, this time felt different. She didn't know if it was because she had told him about her mate, or it was the fact she didn't want to leave Kaden alone with Emma.

Though, she asked Emma to take her place as his mate she still did not like the thought of them kissing or anything like that. She still had a bond to him even if he did not have a bond with her.

30 minutes later a young guarded came to her room to escort her to the border by car. Back to where her uncle stood waiting for her.
