She knocked on my bedroom door and I came out.
Her face was flushed with excitement. Antonia had a large backpack and a thin cardboard box in her hand. "My posters. I don't need them anymore... You can decorate your room a little more."
I took the box from her hands and looked at her. The more she looked at me the more she looked uncomfortable. "Thanks." I said.
"No problem." She thought for a moment before fumbling in her pockets. "Oh. I made you a bracelet. You know, like the one I always wear. So we can match."
She handed me the small loop of purple and blue string and watched for my approval. I smiled weakly. "It'll remind me of you."
"Is that a good thing? Here." She laughed, helping me fasten the bracelet around my thin wrists. From a glance, it almost looked like my arms were skinnier than hers. She didn't seem to notice. "I've got to go. Come say goodbye by the door?"
"I don't like goodbyes." The world felt fucking bleak.
"Do it for me? We can do it quickly. Rip off the goodbye-band-aid and be done with it." She noticed my facial expression. "Not like that! I'm going to come and see you every chance I get. I promise."
"Okay." I turned and put the box of posters in my room before following her out into the hallway. "I'm sorry if I seem bitter and stuff."
"I get it, Bell. Honestly, it's fine. As much as I've wanted to go home forever, it's kind of killing me to leave you here." She said as we walked.
"At least I have Robbie." I shrugged.
Antonia's face faltered and she coughed.
"What?" I asked.
"It's... It's not my place to tell you." She looked at the floor. I'm sure Alice or Felix or another staff member will take you into the office later."
"Has he broken up with me?" I stopped walking.
"No! No... Of course not. He wouldn't ever, you know that. It's just... A staff member will tell you."
"Antonia you're my best friend in the whole world and I swear to God you're going to tell me what the fuck is going on right now so that I don't have to hear it from anyone else." I said, trying to disguise the shaking in my voice.
"Well, when I went to say goodbye to Robbie... He told me that a staff member had spotted you two making out on the balcony. Basically, you guys... You aren't allowed any contact with each other while you're here. You'll be kept totally separate." She stammered.
"What?" My jaw dropped.
"That's all I know. I swear." Antonia held her hands up. "I'm sorry, Bella, I hate to leave you like this when you need me the most, but... I don't have school to go to. I can visit you most days. I'll write letters to you."
"But Robbie!" I protested. "What the fuck? What do you mean we can't have contact?"
Antonia flinched. I realised that I had been yelling and that everyone had heard me round the corner. Quickly, I blinked my tears away and marched around to meet everyone. Sad little footsteps followed behind me and Antonia walked out towards the door.
"I don't want to leave." She said quietly, tears dripping down her face.
Everyone mumbled words of encouragement. Felix spoke up. "Hey, come on! This is a happy moment! One of our longest running residents is leaving!"
"Wow. I'll miss you too." Antonia joked, wiping her eyes.
"Hey, someone's got to be positive. You all look miserable." Felix shrugged. I felt eyes on me.
While Antonia went around hugging everyone, I looked up. Robbie was standing on the other side of the hallway next to a staff member. He looked at me, his long hair falling in front of his eyes. I could see his hickey.
"I love you." He silently mouthed.
"I love you too." I mouthed back.
He smiled.
Suddenly, Antonia's arms were around me. "This isn't a goodbye. Because I'll come and see you as soon as I can. It's just a... TTYL."
"TTYL." I smiled.
"TTYL, Bella." She pulled back from the hug and walked across to Robbie, hugging him tightly. "See you around, Rob."
"See you." Robbie said back.
And she was gone. Into the car, and out of the parking lot.I turned to walk straight back to my room, but Alice and Felix intercepted me. "Hey, not so fast." Felix's voice called.
Taking a deep breath, I looked at them.
"Can we talk to you in the office?" Alice asked. "It won't be a minute."
"I know what you're going to say and I don't want to hear it. So I'm going to my room." I told them. I needed to cry.
"Did Antonia tell you?" Felix sighed.
I nodded.
"And I'm guessing Robbie told her?" Felix said.
I nodded again.
Alice looked up at Felix. "I told you. News spreads fast. We should've told her earlier."
"Well, I'm new to the job. I'm learning as I go." Felix shook his head. "I do try my best."
"Yeah, well. That's all you can do, isn't it?" Alice looked back at me. "Wouldn't you rather hear the terms and justifications about it rather than just live off what you've heard?"
I sighed. "Fine."
"Atta girl." Felix patted me on the back. "Come on, then."
"You haven't even had your baby yet and you're already such a dad." I rolled my eyes.
His face lit up thinking about his baby. "How?"
"You just say Dad stuff. I don't know." I shrugged.
We started walking to the office.
"I've noticed it too." Alice piped up.
"Quiet, You." Felix smirked. "I feel quite ganged up on."
