I sat cross-legged on his floor.

Robbie didn't argue about me going in his room anymore. He just let it happen, being soft and polite. Something told me he liked the company.

Nervous, I just tapped the ground over and over again.

One.

Two.

Three.

Four.

"What did you want to tell me?" Robbie sounded slightly excited. It was kind of heartbreaking, like leaving a puppy at the pound.

I hesitated. "I wanted to ask you what you were going to tell me earlier."

"Oh." He went bright red and stared at the ground. "I... It's nothing."

Antonia had told me already so of course I knew that he had seen her throwing up, but I wanted him to tell me the truth before I told him anything. If he didn't trust me with his truth why should I trust him with mine?

"I won't tell you what I was going to say then." I shrugged.

"What were you going to say?" He agonised. "Can't you just tell me?"

I shook my head. "You first."

"But I asked you first." He folded his arms and shuffled backwards on the bed.

"Oh." I raised an eyebrow. "Did you?"

He looked defeated. "I saw Antonia throwing up... I knew about it. But I didn't tell anyone. I didn't know if she would hate me but I couldn't decide if I'd rather she hate me or if the staff needed to know... I don't have many friends. I can't afford to lose any."

"I think you've made the right choice telling me. Then we can tell the staff. Besides... You've got plenty of friends." I assured him. "We all like you."

"I've only got you, Eve and Antonia. No one else can really be bothered to get to know me. I'm the weird one I guess... Oh, I forgot Jay! Jay's my friend too, obviously." He nodded.

My stomach dropped at the mention of Jay. I was starting to see Antonia's point. I could tell that Robbie was going to be quite upset.

"What?" He noticed my face change.

I shrugged. "It's... It's a little cold in here. Don't you think?"

He picked up a pillow and threw it gently onto the floor next to me. I put it on my lap, trying not to roll my eyes. Passing me a pillow instead of a blanket or sweater or something?

Such a Robbie thing to do.

"Can you tell me what you were going to say please?" He looked so worried. "Please."

I took a deep breath and pulled the pillow up to my chest, hugging it tightly. "I had my first kiss."

"You did?" He paused.

"Yeah." The awkwardness was almost painful. If we were in a cartoon there would've been crickets chirping in the background.

"Who? I mean... Who kissed you?" Robbie was frozen.

"Uh..." I scratched my nose and smiled weakly. "Jay, actually."

"Oh..." he nodded, fake-smiling. "Really?"

"Yeah." I pretended to be comfortable. "Crazy, huh?"

"Yeah..." he looked like he was almost shaking with disappointment. "It's funny... I was talking to him about you just yesterday."

I didn't say anything.

"We were talking about you." He looked at the floor.

"All good things?" I joked, internally cringing.

"Yeah... Yeah. Good things. I was telling him stuff like, you know... How close you and I were getting." Robbie stood up.

"Really?" I stood up too. "That's sweet."

"Adorable." He pushed past me and I fell against the door, hitting my head hard on the door frame.

Gasping, I jogged out into the hall just in time to watch Jay get punched straight in the face. Robbie looked different, taller almost. He was beating the crap out of Jay, blood splattering outwards like a fountain. Antonia stood nearby, her hand over her mouth. Coming from the kitchen area, some staff members sprinted out and tried to break up the fight. Nothing was working, no one could pry Robbie's fury off of Jay.

My breaths started to leave me. I turned round and walked back into Robbie's bedroom. The door closed behind me. I sat on the floor and I waited for it all to stop.
