Sure enough, Eve left.
She was smiley, perky and gave Antonia and I quick hugs before she went home. Her excitement far over shone her sadness for leaving us, which slightly offended those of us left. Obviously we got it, but we all felt a little salty that she had gotten what we all so desperately wanted.
Felix started working with us the next morning. I was too miserable to come out and see him, with him having to come and find me in Robbie's room instead. Antonia, Robbie and I were sitting on the floor sulking.
"Hey. Why the long faces?" Felix stuck his head round the door.
"Eve went home." Antonia said without looking up.
Felix thought for a moment. "The other one with OCD?"
"Yeah." Antonia said quietly.
"Aren't you happy for her?" Felix asked, coming in and sitting on the floor with us.
I sighed. "Well, yeah but-"
"I get it, I get it. I think I'd probably feel the same." Felix said kindly. "How can I cheer us all up?"
"Get us out of here." Antonia mumbled.
"Hey, come on! It isn't that bad, is it?" Felix asked.
We all glared at him. My stomach dropped slightly and I looked at my feet. "I want to go home."
Something in Felix's dark brown eyes softened and he sighed. "It's awful seeing you all like this. But you know the only way you can get out of here. You've got to do the work on your end. I know you get told that a lot, but-"
"I'm improving!" Antonia groaned. "I ate a full meal on Wednesday and I've put on eleven pounds since I came here!"
I smiled. She hadn't told me that before.
"I haven't had a freakout for a week." Robbie protested. "I've been normal!"
"I'm not doing my rituals as much." I was lying. It was awful seeing everyone else get better while I stayed the same.
Felix grinned like a proud dad. "That's awesome, guys. It's fucking brilliant, in fact. If you improve like this for a while longer you'll be out in no time. Remember, though, a bit of relapse every so often is okay."
Antonia thought for a moment. "I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I know I'm sick now. I'm not fat. I'm just not well."
I reached out and squeezed her hand. She looked at me gratefully. Robbie reached out and touched her on the shoulder, something he didn't often do. He didn't like physical contact.
"You make me proud." Robbie said to her.
Felix and I looked at each other and decided to stay quiet so as not to ruin the moment.
"You're a beautiful girl. One day you'll be really happy and really healthy. I know it." Robbie promised her.
My heart warmed up in my chest.
Antonia smiled. "You're a gem, Rob. I think you deserve the world. You make me happy to be a patient at a facility like this: you're a success story. You're one of my best friends."
There was a second of quiet where no one spoke, and we all heard a sniff.
"Fuck." Felix laughed and stood up, wiping his face.
"Are you crying?" Antonia giggled.
"Why is he crying, Bella?" Robbie stiffened and stood up, his face horrified. "I didn't say anything mean! What happened, Bella? What did he do?"
Felix stepped in for me. "No, no no. They're happy tears. Proud tears. It's a good sign."
Robbie looked completely confused but accepted the answer and sat down. "What made you happy?"
"Seeing you guys getting better, I don't know. You've got minds of your own. I like it. I guess I see myself in you guys." He wiped his face roughly and laughed. "I'm getting soppy! It's because I'm going to be a dad, I guess. This is embarrassing. My first day on the job, too!"
"We won't tell anyone." Antonia promised.
"Robbie might." I joked. "He tells everyone everything. He told Meredith and Devin that I was on my period the other day."
Felix chuckled. "That was a bad move, mate. Did you get in trouble?"
Robbie nodded. "She pinched my arm. She's weak, though, so it didn't hurt like she wanted it to."
"My girlfriend, Adrianna, was on her period one time. I thought I'd be nice and get up really early to go out and get her chocolate." Felix started.
"Goals." Antonia smiled.
"The catch was," He cringed just thinking about it. "I forgot I was already making her pancakes. Nearly burned the kitchen down while I was out. I've never seen anger like it."
We all laughed and shook our heads.
"I guess what I'm saying is treat your girl right, Robbie. And don't be an idiot." Felix warned jokingly.
"Oh, Felix?" I remembered.
"What's up?" He asked.
"I need to talk to you. In private." I said quietly.
He tried to think of a place where we'd be alone. "Would your bedroom do? Is it a long chat?"
I shook my head and stood up, giving Antonia and Robbie a quick wave before walking out into the corridor and towards my bedroom.
"What's it about?" Felix looked at me, throwing and catching his set of keys.
I hesitated. "Another member of staff."
"It's my first day, Bella. I'm not sure how much I can do to help you, there." Felix shuffled, reaching my door and starting to unlock it. "I haven't got much power."
"No, it's important. You'll be able to fix it." I told him. "It'll get you mad."
We sat on my bed and Felix smiled. "Hit me with it."
I told him everything Alice had told me. Felix's face was growing more pale and angry and passionate with every word. When I'd finished speaking, he stood up and walked out into the corridor.
I knew he was going to speak to Alice about this.
A\N: I'm on holiday in Menorca, so I am currently internetless! Sorry I won't be able to reply to any messages or anything. I'm updating this chapter from a fish restaurant with my family (I don't eat seafood) and the free Wi-fi is awful. This is a nightmare lol, but I'm back home on Saturday so I'll see you guys then. Although, I might be able update sooner than that. I know the plot for the rest of this book and it's GOOD! I'm so excited to write it and for you guys to read it.
Ah. Dinner's here. Gotta go. See you guys soon. Love ya.
