I sighed, hugging my coat close to my body as I hurriedly walked towards my home. Winter would be ending soon and yet, the temperature felt as if it were right in the middle. I turned the corner quickly into the alleyway that gave me a straight shot to my apartment building and stopped, seeing two people fighting on the ground.
"Hey!" I shouted, running to save the older man pinned to the ground. I gripped the aggressor by the collar and pulled them away roughly, letting them fall to the ground behind me. I quickly helped the man up, grabbing his wallet from the ground and handing it to him. "He-
I was tackled to the ground, my arms pinned behind me.
"Let me go!" I yelled as my arms were tied up.
"Why, so you can take that poor man's wallet?" A man spoke, sitting me up against the alley wall.
I looked around and groaned. The old man was gone without a trace. I stared back up at the man and froze.
"Spiderman?" I questioned, staring up in disbelief. I shook my head and mumbled to myself. "What're the odds?"
Peter, or "Spiderman," was on the phone, talking to who could only be another Avenger upstate. He spoke quietly, just out of earshot.
I looked to my side, watching as the mugger tried to get out of Peter's webs. "It's no use, these things don't come off for hours."
The mugger groaned and stopped moving. They looked to me, their hood falling down. My jaw dropped as the light from the closest street lamp illuminated her face. Small white markings were drawn around her eyes and her hair was as black as mine. Her light brown skin making her dark brown, almost black eyes pop.
"What're you looking at?" She hissed, her accent thick and Shakespearean, much like Loki and Thor's. She raised a brow as I said nothing and smirked. The temptation to ask about her origins was strong but I bit my tongue, knowing that I shouldn't give any of my knowledge away.
Finally, Peter turned back to face the both of us and sighed. "Looks like you two are coming with me. And him." Peter pointed to the end of the alley where the mighty Thor stood, glancing between the mugger and myself.
"Which one do you want?" He scoffed, picking the other woman up and carrying her away. Peter stepped towards me to do the same.
"I can walk myself, thank you." I said, allowing Peter to help me stand and hold onto my arm as we walked to a S.H.I.E.L.D truck. I sighed, whispering to myself. "Just like the first time."
Peter looked at me but said nothing as he climbed into the back of the truck with me. The other woman was mouthing off to Thor as the truck drove away and I said nothing.
"I could kick both of your asses!" She hissed, pulling at the webs once more.
Finally, after hearing her speak for over an hour, I interrupted her in irritation.
"For the love of God can you shut up?!" I shouted, glaring at her. "Just because you're from Asgard doesn't mean you're special, so shut your mouth!"
The rest of the trip was completely silent.
∆
Eventually the truck came to a stop and the back doors were opened. Peter walked alongside me and Thor carried the other woman over his shoulder as all of us entered the compound that I hadn't seen in over six years.
"Hasn't changed." I said to myself quielty, looking around the lobby before entering the elevator. I noticed Peter looking at me from behind his mask once again and I suppressed the smile that wanted so badly to spread across my lips.
After making our way to the basement, I was sat outside of a small room to wait for the other woman to be done with her interrogation. After close to an hour, she finally emerged from the room with a seemingly annoyed Thor holding her arm tightly. He sat her down next to me and chained her legs to the chair before guiding me to the room. I sat down on my own, calmly waiting for Thor to speak.
"You know of Asgard?" He finally asked after a few minutes of pure silence.
I nodded in reply, adjusting my position as my arms were still uncomfortably bound behind my back.
"How?" He asked. "Only a few earthlings know of it. So how do you?"
I hesitated, thinking about how I wanted to answer.
"I knew someone that talked about the mythology a lot. And now everyone knows who you are. Even your...." I paused, biting back the crack in my voice. "Even your brother is a well known hero now."
Thor looked at me with a raised brow. "So you know of the Avengers?"
"Who doesn't?" I chuckled, glancing at Thor and then to the one way mirror. "Who's all back there?"
Thor ignored my question and continued to ask his own.
"Why were you helping that woman steal?" He questioned, taking a seat across from me.
I sighed, looking at Thor in the eyes. "I wasn't helping her. I use that alley as a shortcut everyday after work, including tonight. I just turned the corner and saw her on top of the man. So I pulled her off of him and handed him his wallet back. That's when Pe--Spiderman knocked me to the ground and webbed me. By the time I was able to speak, the old man was already gone with his wallet back in his possession."
"And you expect me to believe this little story of yours?" Thor asked with a small grin.
I stared into his eyes for a moment before speaking again.
"Does it look like I would lie to you, Thor?"
