I woke up in my cell with dry tears on my cheeks and an aching heart.
A dream.....a wonderful dream that could only ever be a reality in my mind. No one remembered me, and no one would.
So I stood from my bed with a sigh and made my way to the door. I pressed a hand to the glass and stared right into the camera.
"I need to speak with Loki." I said, knowing that someone could hear me.
"Don't bother. No one's here."
I turned to look at my neighbor and sighed, sitting down at the foot of my bed.
"I'm sorry about yesterday. I'm just...nevermind. It's a long story and you wouldn't understand." I let out a long breath as I rubbed my face with both of my hands. "I never caught your name."
"Brunnhilde." She replied. "Don't bother telling me yours, I already know it. You're all these people talk about."
I raised a brow. "Really? What about?"
"Just how something's off. Like they know you or something." Brunnhilde chuckled. "That's your secret then, right? Something happened and no one remembers you or something? That why Lackey was so upset yesterday. He saw your memories and was confused."
I stared at Brunnhilde in disbelief before laughing. "Loki, your illusions are a lot better than they used to be."
Brunnhilde stood and sighed before transforming into Loki. He walked out of Brunnhilde's empty cell and stepped in front of mine.
"How did you know it was me?" He asked in a low voice.
"You saw my memories. You know how I know." I answered, not bothering to stand up. "But you'll never believe me in a million years if...nevermind."
"If what?" Loki asked, finally opening and entering my cell. He sat at the head of my bed and sighed.
"If I told you the truth." I huffed, staring at the floor.
"Were those really your memories? Did all of that actually happen?" Loki asked softly, looking at me.
I nodded slowly. "I-I never thought I would be back. It's been six years. And seeing as how everyone is happy, I feel like I'm just going to ruin it all."
Loki stayed quiet for a moment.
"I saw Thanos." He finally spoke. "I saw what he did to you."
"A lot like you, huh?"
Loki nodded. "Listen, I don't remember anything, but I know that it all happened. I can't just ignore what I saw. So, things may not go back to the way they used to be, but, you can stay. You can come back to us. Even if we have to start all over again."
I smiled, finally looking up to Loki. I couldn't help the few tears that shed as I spoke. "I missed you all so much. Everyday I wished I could have come back. I wish that I would have never had anything changed. But I wanted Bree to live the best life possible. I didn't want her to grow up like I did, unhappy and mentally damaged. And it's been so hard. Harder than I thought it would be, living without the only family I've ever had."
Loki said nothing as I paused for a deep breath. He simply waited for me to continue.
"I thought it would be easy. But then after Thanos did what he did... I wanted nothing more than to come to you. I wanted you to hold me and tell me that everything was going to be okay. And I wanted to do the same for you. I know that you rarely sleep, always haunted by nightmares and dark thoughts just like me. Now here we are. No one knows me and my first impression on you is the same as it was the first time. I'm nothing but a goddamn criminal."
We sat in a tense silence for what felt like an eternity. But, after a while, the tension faded and we rested in a calm, almost comfortable quietness. All but the sound of our light breathing and my occasional sniffling interrupting it.
"I'm not one for words." Loki said, breaking the quiet. "But I know your pain and frustration to be true. I've felt what you're going through now and I still sometimes feel it, even to this day. And based on what I've seen, we used to be very close. We made each other happy beyond reason and I want it to be that way again. Because for the first time in years, I've felt at home, just from your presence in this compound. I couldn't figure it out before, but now I know the real reason behind it all. So please, Aidan, even if we never become what we used to be, promise me that you will never leave again. Everyone needs you back. I need you back."
I quickly nodded, holding my arms to my sides as not to pull Loki close to me. I was shaking, fighting the urge to plant a million kisses to my loves face. But like he said, we may never be what we were before.
"Aidan." I looked over to him as he moved to sit closer to me. "You can hug me."
I wasted no time in taking into his invitation and I wrapped my arms around him tightly. Pressing myself as close to him as humanly possible and still wanting to get closer. I exhaled, tucking my head into the crook of his neck and relishing on how wonderful his cool skin felt. Hearing a faint chuckle from Loki, I pulled myself away from him and frowned.
"Sorry."
Loki shook his head. "Don't apologise, I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at myself."
"Why?" I giggled.
"You're just....you're really warm." He blushed, fidgeting with his hands. "It's nice, since I'm always cold."
I smiled brightly up at him. "We used to always say that we were meant to snuggle each other. You were there to cool me down while I was there to warm you up."
Loki laughed lightly, resting his hand on my own. We both shuddered at the same time from the temperature differences and laughed.
"I missed you so much, Mischief."
