The light from Stiles' computer lit up his room as he carefully hacked the police database, he'd seen his dad's do it a dozen times.Just then there was a knock on his bedroom door. Stiles quickly minimized the window.
"Yeah?" He called.
His dad stepped in with a curious look, "I saw the light under your door. It's late, what are you doing up?"
At least it was Cas and not Dean. Cas was always more understanding and trusting, perhaps too trusting when it came to Stiles. Lying to him would be easy enough.
"Uh, late night studying, I have a big test coming up so..." Stiles trailed off, usually that was enough to get Cas to back off. His other dad, however, would demand details. What class, what was the test about, did he need help, it was frustrating as much as it was endearing. His dad's tried to be as involved as they could, both having had shit dad's. Dean's dad was a hard ass and treated his kids like soldiers. Cas' dad had skipped out on him, so they tried to make up for it with Stiles.
He appreciated it, but it didn't help when he was doing things he shouldn't be, like hacking the police database to get details on the case his parents were working
"You shouldn't cram just before a test," Cas frowned.
"Yeah, I know, it snuck up on me," Stiles shrugged innocently.
"How much more do you think you have left?" Cas asked taking a step towards Stiles.
"You know, I didn't realize how late it was, I think I'll call it a night," Stiles smiled closing his laptop. He knew that look, Cas was going to get Dean to come help Stiles study. Cas left that to Dean because, well frankly, he was better at it. Cas got too frustrated with the monotony of it.
"Alright, get some sleep, you'll want to be well rested for the test," Cas nodded.
Stiles waited for his dad to close the door before falling back with a heavy sigh. If his dad's found out he was looking into their current case, they'd have his ass for sure. Ever since Stiles was old enough to understand what was going on he'd begged his dad's to let him get involved in hunting, but they were very adamant about keeping Stiles out of it. Stiles' real parents had died due to demon possession when he was only three. Dean, Cas and his Uncle Sam had taken him in without hesitation when they found out that he had no other relatives. They kept him in the dark until just before his tenth birthday when Stiles had caught his dad and Uncle Sam arguing about a hunt. Stiles heard enough to start asking questions.
The three of them sat him down and explained what really happened to his parents and about all the things that went bump in the night. Stiles took it well. He'd always suspected there was more out there. Just by the way his dad's and uncle were so suspicious of everything and always double-checked locks and put devil's traps everywhere. He pretended not to notice, but he was observant.
Now he was sixteen and he was beyond tired of being sidelined while his dad's dealt with the monsters. He wanted to help. He was sure that if he could prove himself than his dad's would let him be more involved. He was eager to learn.
The next day Stiles was up to his ears in lore about something called a Vetala. They were a snake like creature that worked in pairs and fed off of their victims up to four times, after which, the victim died. They could be killed by a silver knife to the heart. He could totally do this. He just needed to avoid their paralyzing venom.
Stiles was loading up a duffle bag with silver knives, holy water and any other weapons he thought he might need.
"Going somewhere?" A voice asked from the door of the weapons room. Shit it was his dad and not the understanding one.
