Derek's nose caught the all too familiar scent of Stiles. It was odd for him to be out on this side of town, unless he was visiting Derek, but Derek's loft was a good ten minutes behind Derek and Stiles' scent was coming from in front of him.

Curiously Derek followed the scent, he didn't smell anyone else, that meant Stiles was alone.

As the scent grew stronger, he smelled sadness. Was Stiles okay? He hadn't seen him in a few days. Had something happened? Worry ate at Derek's chest as he followed the scent.

It had been two weeks since Derek had spoken to Stiles about how he comforted Derek. He worried things would be weird, but thankfully Stiles had only grown more attentive and made it a point to toss a text his way after a rough fight, or he would stop by and check on any wounds Derek may have acquired.

It was exactly s friendship, but it was the start of something for sure.

Derek stepped to the edge of the woods to find himself at Beacon Hills Cemetery. He easily spotted Stiles leaning against the back of a headstone. His head tilted back so he was looking up at the sky.

Stiles must have been visiting his mother's grave. That's when Derek realized that it was October. He didn't know the exact day, but he knew Stiles' mother had passed in October.

Derek debated whether to leave or go check on the human. He didn't know if Stiles would want to be alone.

Derek decided this might be an opportunity to be there for Stiles, to comfort him for a change.

The alpha made his way towards Stiles carefully.

The sound of crunching leaves under Derek's feet alerted Stiles of his presence.

Derek stood with his hands jammed into his pockets as Stiles looked up at him with a forced smile.

"Heya, Derek, what are you doing here?"

"I caught your scent," Derek answered simply. He glanced around as if expecting to see someone else.

"From that far?" Stiles asked with raised brows.

"I was out for a walk," Derek shrugged. He looked down at Stiles before speaking again, "Today the anniversary?"

Stiles dropped his eyes to his hands and nodded solemnly.

"Do you want to be alone?" Derek asked next. He didn't want to intrude.

"Not really. I've been out here for the past hour by myself," Stiles admitted.

Derek pulled his hands from his pockets and sat next to Stiles, close enough so their shoulders werpulled his hands from his pockets and sat next to Stiles, close enough so their shoulders were touching.

"Why isn't Scott with you?" He'd expected Scott to be there for Stiles on such a big day.

"He's got a lot going on, I didn't want to bother him," Stiles shrugged.

Derek smelled the disappointment.

"I doubt he would consider this a bother," Derek pointed out.

"He's got more important things to worry about," Stiles waved his hand dismissively.

Derek scowled at Stiles' dismissal, "Your needs are important Stiles."

The human looked at Derek with a curious look, "Is that why you're here?"

Derek's eyes fell to his lap. He didn't know why he was there. He'd caught his scent and just followed it.

"I sensed your sadness and wanted to make sure you were okay. When I found you here, I assumed it was a significant day. I know that I struggle on the day that the fire happened. It's easier when you're not alone. You don't think so much," Derek spoke honestly. He'd never told anyone that before.

"Yeah, Scott usually tries to keep me busy," Stiles nodded with a small smile.

"I know..." Derek paused, "I know I'm not Scott, but I can try and be here for you, if you want me to," Derek offered. He hated how Stiles made him feel so vulnerable. Something about the human made him want to be there for him and to open up to him.

"You'd do that?" Stiles asked a small frown touching his features.

"You're always there for me, It's the least I could do," Derek stood then. He put a hand out for Stiles to take.

"Come on, I can show you around the reserve a bit. I'll show you where I learned to control my shift, and where Cora turned for the first time," Derek offered with a small smile.

Stiles' face lit up as he allowed Derek to help him off the ground.

Derek hadn't ever shown anyone those spots before, they were places he would visit when he missed his family, but he would gladly share them with Stiles. Besides Derek was learning he'd do anything to see Stiles' smile and right now there was an excited grin plastered on the human's face that Derek had put there. It was worth anything to see that smile.

(Request for JadeJardine, sorry it took so long. I wrote two and couldn't decide which I liked better. Hope it's okay)
