Another month passed, another month missing Matt. He’s back in a month and a half and I can’t wait. Plus he said he’s gotten me a gift from Japan, my favourite place. He won’t show me or even tell me, he says it’s a secret. I’ve spent a lot more time hanging out with Ryan and Kyle and I must say I approve of him. He’s really good for Ryan. He’s always positive, always looking on the bright side of every situation. He likes all the same movies and music as Ryan. He’s always got Ryan’s back in every situation. And honestly, I think Ryan might be in love. I can see the way he looks at Kyle. It's the same way I look at Matty. Kyle was a rich kid growing up. His dad was a lawyer and his mother was a midwife. He’s very tall, a lot taller than Ryan, and has shaggy blonde hair and green eyes. He’s quite slender but muscular at the same time. He’s a looker, alright.
Anyway, after seeing Ryan and Kyle I went to visit my mother in rehab for the first time in 2 years. I’ve spoken to her a few times but not much. I took the train and then the bus to the rehab. I went and put my name down and then went to her room. She was lying on her bed, sweating heavily. She smelt like she hadn’t showered in weeks and, honestly, she looked horrible. She looked up slightly and looked very surprised.
“Are you new?” she asked.
“Don’t you recognize me?” I was slightly disappointed, but not very. I knew to expect this.
“M-Maddy?”
“Hey mum”
“Hey kiddo, how you doing?”
“I’m alright. Got a boyfriend now”
“Yeah? What’s his name?” she asked, right as she vomited into the bucket beside her bed. I held back her hair for her.
“You know that band I listened to a lot as a teenager?”
“Yeah, uh, Drive Like I Do or something?”
“Yeah, I’m dating their singer now”
“You’re shitting me” she laughed.
“Nope. His name’s Matty. He’s really lovely, mum. I think you’d like him. Maybe once you get out of here you could meet him”
“Oh, hun, I’m not getting out of here for a long while. But I’d like that” she smiled at me.
“How far into recovery are you?” I asked her.
“Only a week. I had a relapse, hunny. I won’t be out of here for at least 3 months”
“You’ve really gotta stop with the drugs, mum”
“Psh, says you” she says as she rolls her eyes.
“I smoke weed on occasion. You’re a heroin addict. There’s a big difference. Look, I gotta go. But you need to make a decision. Me or heroin. If you can give it up, you can be a part of my life. You can meet Matty and come over for dinners. You can be in my life. But if you can’t, mum, you’re cut off. I’ll see you round, I guess” I said. And that was it. I walked out of there and planned on never coming back. Saying that I’m bad when she’s addicted to heroin. It’s a fucking joke.
I caught the train home afterward. I got back to mine and walked up the dirty stairwell to my flat. I opened the door to the dark lounge room and sat on the couch, but I felt something next to me. I turned on the lamp on the side table and guess what? MATTY. I jumped onto his lap and started kissing him so hard that I almost pushed him off the couch.
“What are you doing here?!” I screamed happily.
“You know how I said the tour was three months?” he grinned.
“Yeah…”
“I lied” he smirked.
