In the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) many of his Companions (رضي الله عنهم) died, but he never beat himself or wailed over any of them.
Rather he (ﷺ) said:
"He who slaps his cheeks, tears his clothes and follows the ways and traditions of the Days of Ignorance IS NOT ONE OF US."
