"Music"
There is a man among the people who buys discourses of distracting amusements, so that he may mislead (people) from the Way of Allah, and make a mockery of it. For such people there is a disgraceful punishment.
[Surah Luqmaan Ayah 6]According to a number of commentators of the Quraan, such as Abdullah Ibn Abbaas and Abdullah Ibn Masood رضي الله عنهم "Distracting amusement" means music.
Abu 'Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari رضي الله عنه said that he heard the Prophet ﷺ saying, "From among my followers, there will be some people who will consider fornication, wearing silk, drinking alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful."
[Bukhaari 5590]We live in a society where music has become very rampant. Where it is very difficult to safeguard ourselves from this great fitnah. Where it has become so widespread, that many fail to realize that music is in fact haraam. We live in a world where sins; minor and major are being committed so openly, that we have become blind to the fact that they are haraam.
Music is one of the greatest fitnah of this Ummah. As mentioned in the above Hadeeth, our Nabi ﷺ said that there would be such people who would make various things permissible. And among those things, is music. And SubhanAllah, we are living in a time where we see the prophecy of our beloved Prophet ﷺ come to pass.
Now as for the reasons behind music being haraam. Firstly would be the aforementioned hadeeth. Along with that, if we would look at it in a logical perspective, we would understand the Hikmah and wisdom for its prohibition. Allah ﷻ sent and revealed to us the best discourse; The Noble Quraan.
Allah ﷻ has sent down the best discourse, a book containing subjects resembling each other, mentioned again and again, shivered from which are the skins of those who have awe of their Lord ﷻ. Then, their skins and their hearts become soft enough to tend to the remembrance of Allah. This is the Guidance of Allah ﷻ with which He brings to the right path whomsoever He wills. As for the one whom Allah ﷻ lets go astray, for him there is no one to guide.
[Surah Zumar Ayah 23]As for the one who turns away from My message, he shall have a straitened life, and We shall raise him blind on the Day of Judgment.”
[Surah Taha Ayah 124]Music is a form of turning away from the remembrance of Allah ﷻ, thus it would cause pain, depression, stress and other forms of negative emotions as Allah ﷻ promised in the above Ayah. Even when it is not directly stimulating the passions nor inducing depression and discordance, it can be harmful owing solely to the fact that it generates and nourishes an excessive state of emotion which, when it is not transmuted into constructive activity, weakens the character.
Now many of us are aware of its prohibition, yet find ourselves inclined to its deception. And are lost as to how to refrain and guard ourselves from it. So I would like to talk about a few solutions with the hope that, In Shaa Allah, it would benefit you and me, and help us to stay away from it.
Allah ﷻ said:The ones who believe and their hearts are peaceful with the remembrance of Allah. Listen, the hearts find peace only in the remembrance of Allah.”
[Surah Ra'ad Ayah 28]Firstly, as I have mentioned before is the Quraan. The best form of Dhikrulllah. Whether it's listening to the Quraan, reciting it, reading its meaning, or tafseer, this will be a means for us tasting the sweetness of Imaan, and realizing that it is only the Quraan that can give us true peace and comfort.
Ibn Masood رضي الله عنه reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah, he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a ten-fold reward. I do not say that Alif-Lam-Meem is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Meem is a letter."
[Tirmidhi]As mentioned above, reading every letter of the Glorious Quraan, ten hasanaat (rewards) are written in our account, on the condition that it is done solely for the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. While listening to music has no benefit except, that for every second we spend listening to it, sins are written in our account. SubhanAllah. Now knowing this, what would you prefer?
Secondly, our company; the people that we call our friends. If they are listening to music, it's our responsibility to tell them the dangers of it and it's prohibition. And if they pay no heed, then they are not of those whom we should keep company. As it is said in a Hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ﷺ said: "A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend." (Abu Dawood)
And lastly, Du'aa; for we cannot do anything without the permission and help of Allah ﷻ. We have to ask Allah ﷻ to give us to understanding and reality of how detrimental music is in the life of a Muslim. It is said in a Hadeeth narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Prophet ﷺ said: “There is nothing more honorable with Allah ﷻ than supplication.” (Tirmidhi)
And so I end by saying, May Allah grant you and I both, the ability to refrain from music and give us the understanding of its evils and effects it has to the heart of a believer. Aameen.
And Allah know best.
"Many musicians died because of depression, anxiety, stress, pressure, repression etc.Yet people believe Music brings peace."
Music is Haram.
So stop listening to it.
Listen to Qur'an it will bring peace and mercy of Allah Subhan'ahu Wa Ta'ala.
Fear Allah and leave it if you're listening to it.Reminder: You're beautiful because Allah created you and he doesn't makes mistake and yeah he loves you❤️
Jazak Allahu khairan kaseera,
Until next time In Shaa Allah,
