12 May Year 22
I opened the emergency exit door and jumped down the stairs. Then I ran fast as if my heart was going to explode. The face I passed by in the hospital hallway was definitely my mother's. When the elevator door opened and people came out, I pushed past them desperately and saw my mom entered the emergency exit. I ran down the stairs two steps at a time restlessly. I went down several floors without stopping.
"Mom!" My mother stopped. I took one more step. My mother turned to me. I went down a step more. I began to see my mother's face, it was then, my heel slipped on the edge of a step and my body fell forwards. I closed my eyes tightly at the thought of falling straight forward. Someone caught my arm, thanks to him, I managed to keep my balance. When I turned around, I saw Jimin standing there with a surprised look on his face. I turned my head again without saying thank you.
I saw a woman. She looked surprised. The little boy next to her blinked his big eyes and looked at me. It wasn't my mother. I stood silent on the stairs staring at the woman's face.
I didn't know what I had said to get away with the situation. I didn't ask how Jimin appeared on the spot behind me. My mind was too complicated to wonder and question the details. She wasn't my mother.
Maybe, I knew that from the beginning. More than 10 years have passed since the day I was left alone at the amusement park. My mother would be older and different from what I remember. Even if I had met her, I wouldn't be able to recognize her.
No, I don't remember her face anymore.
I turned around. Jimin followed me silently. Ever since Jimin was in the emergency room when we were in high school, he continued to stay at the hospital. I remembered when I asked him if he wanted to go out, he looked like he didn't know what to say. Maybe Jimin was trapped with a memory of himself, like me, without being able to let go. I took a step closer to him.
"Jimin, lets get out of here."
