7 June Year 20
"Stupid dog, can't stay still for just a second." We already searched the entire neighborhood, but couldn't find Dubu. Twenty minutes had passed when I checked the time. How far can a two-month old puppy could have gone in just twenty minutes? I was sweating under the hot summer sun. I called out for him until my throat went sore. He got out of his leash the moment I checked my phone. When I lifted my head, Dubu was gone. I started to run and looked in every alleyway, checking inside every open door. "Dubu!" I called in a loud voice. Only the people that passed by looked at me.
As I ran I got angry, and called him a stupid puppy. I even got to the point where I told myself it was just a breedless dog. But even after thinking about it, I knew that it wasn't Dubu's fault. It was mine. I looked away and I didn't pay close attention so he'd gotten loose. I'd been distracted with some unimportant conversation that I didn't notice Dubu was gone. I came to a stop and spat at myself. Maybe Dubu didn't like being with me. Being with him was a good thing to me, but to him, maybe it was nothing more than being seperated from his family.
The next thing I heard was a patter of feet and the sound of Dubu's barking. At first I thought I was just imagining it. But no, I saw Dubu running down the alley. His puppy ears were being flown back and his mouth was open as he ran up the hill.
"Dubu!" I shouted. And when I kneeled down, he ran straight up to me. "Where did you go? How did you come back? You remembered my scent didn't you?" He was licking my face as I hugged him, and a strange feeling welled up in me.
I'm the only person Dubu can rely on. I could be reliable for someone, too. I can be a place he could go back to. Dubu squirmed to get out of my arms, but I only held him closer.
