2 May Year 21
I raced towards the Yang Jicheon riverbank as the sunset deepened. I pressed heavily on the bike pedals and headed towards a sky full of mixed pinks and purples that made me feel like I was escaping from the weight of my everyday life. I took my bike out as soon as I heard mom preparing dinner just like what I'd been doing. I didn't want to see anyone. My house was a place where not a single person would smile at me. Just because we lived together doesn't mean we're family. Nothing changed even when they left. My hyungs had left one by one. And even though we lived in the same city, it'd been a long time since we contacted each other. Now there was no one left in my house who would smile at me.
When the sun was gone but the moon hadn't risen yet, darkness settled down on the riverbank. The scenery changed wherever I rode my bike. Past the road that was turned into a park, there was a place piled with garbage, abandoned cars, motorbikes and tires. I leaned my bike against a pillar under the bridge and made my way down the riverbank. On the other side of the river was a group of kids lighting fires, drinking and throwing sticks around. But on this side where I was standing, there was nobody but me. No one would come to this kind of ruined place.
Maybe that was the reason why nobody came to me either. I was most comfortable like this, in a place nobody would come to find me, alone in the total darkness. I thought it'd be nice if this moment would never end.
