When Selina made it back to the sewer it was almost two in the afternoon. Her cats cheered for her as she dropped down to the grimy stone. She fed them the chocolate and ate some herself. Sooooo good. You could tell the chocolate was expensive by the taste of it, caramel truffles, that would now be her favorite kind. She watched as her favorite cat, Meesha, inspected the darkest parts of the sewer. After all the chocolate was eaten Selina changed back into her regular black top and zippered up her jacket. It was currently freezing in Gotham, that's Christmas time for you. She longed for a pair of warm gloves, a hat, a warm scarf. Why not just go get one? She was very proud of the way she handled things with the two cooks and it made her ego a tad larger. She was getting comfortable stealing. She was thinking about it, and there were rarely situations where she was caught. The last time she was caught was four years ago and they made her stay in a foster home for girls for two years, until she managed to escape that. The foster homes were like prisons. To make matters worse the girls all hated each other, and they were overcrowded. She shared a bed with two other girls, and they rarely had food or clothes for them. The only plus was indoor plumbing and warmth. Getting caught wasn't an option.
Selina kissed her cats goodbye and hopped back out to the only world she thought she belonged to. She always told herself she deserved better than this, but when she saw the way people acted when they had more than this, the beautiful way they lived, she knew that she would never fit in with the lifestyle. She came to the conclusion that life didn't get better for you when you grew up this way and that she would never be happy. What was the point staying positive and getting your hopes up when in the end you knew you would never get what you wanted...Selina's thoughts were interrupted by screams.
"LET GO OF ME! PLEASE, LET ME GO!" The screams were female and sounded very young. Selina followed the screams and saw a man holding the arm of a young girl. The girl's face was red and wet from crying. When she saw Selina she yelled, "HELP ME PLEASE!" The man was very tall, bearded, and holding a baseball bat in his other hand. He was whispering something to the girl and Selina could tell it wasn't anything good.
"HEY!" Selina yelled to him. The girl fell silent and his whispering stopped. He stared at her with cold, scary, pale blue eyes. He looked desperate for something, like he was searching for something, creep. "Leave her alone!" The man's face began to show crazed anger as he stepped toward Selina. He let go of the little girl who ran off crying. Selina stood with her chest puffed out and her head held high as the man walked slowly up to her.
"You're a pretty little thing," he was now a foot away from her holding the bat with a firm grip like he was ready to swing but street crazies were never predictable, "You'd do a much better job then the little one."
"Shut the fuck up" Selina said moodily as she launched her fist to his face as hard as she could. The punch through him off balance and he stumbled back a few steps. The man started giggling to himself as he stood back up.
"I like 'em feisty" he said. He charged toward her and swung the baseball bat right at her side. She didn't move out of the way in time and the pain shot up her hip. The man ran over to her limp body and picked her up. Even though she was in pain she kicked and clawed at him, the back of her boots hitting his arms, her nails scratching his face. She scratched his left eye and he dropped her and let out a scream in pain. Selina picked herself up as quick as she could and threw herself at him. She jumped on his back and slammed his head to the ground. The man fell limp to the ground and Selina sighed with relief. It was when she stood up when she realized how much she shaking, her legs felt like jello and her hands were even worse. She tried to run away from where the man lye on the alley pavement but hit the ground after three steps. She was heart broken to see herself so weak. Suddenly she heard footsteps running toward her. It was the little girl she had saved from the creep.
