Jonathan and Selina had only enough money to call a cab to get to the party, so walking back was no easy task. When they left the party it was about nine o' clock and the winter sky above Gotham was a thick, black, wool blanket. The darkness only made things worse. Gotham was the most dangerous city in the United States, with a crime rate so high it scared people away from the area around the city and it rose at night. In the shadows people could hide in the shadows and snatch you up before you had the chance to let out a cry for help. In the dark criminals could escape easily, and the only people brave enough to walk the streets were either homeless, drunk, or up to no good.

“We-We're almost there Selina.” Jonathan said shakily while clutching Selina's hand.

“I didn't ask...” Selina giggled. It was clear that Jonathan had never been out this late before. He had grabbed her arm the moment they stepped out onto the pavement and Selina knew it would be an interesting walk. She enjoyed the fact that she was introducing him to so many new things: his first friendship, first party, and now his first walk through Gotham after dark.

Jonathan gulped nervously, “Right. Just letting you know...” He looked around them nervously, checking for creepers.

“Stop freaking out.” she stopped their walk and put her hands on his shoulders, she stared him straight in the eyes, “You're with me. I'm not gonna let anyone hurt ya.” She gave him a reassuring smile and Jonathan felt his heart fill with warmth and butterflies spread their wings and flutter about in his stomach.

“Okay,” Selina put out her hand again and Jonathan grabbed it as they continued on with their walk, “It's just...I've never been out this late at night...”

“No!” Selina began sarcastically, “You don't say!”

“Yeah alright, I get it. I have every right to be nervous! We're in Gotham!” The two of them began to giggle but were silenced by the sound of footsteps coming from behind them.

“Yes we are.” A deep voice answered. A tall man wearing a large black coat walked up to them. Jonathan froze but was snapped out of shock by Selina pulling him forward, continuing on with her walk like no one had ever said anything. Her pace quickened but the man continued to follow at his same steady pace.

“He's following us!” Jonathan whisper-screamed into Selina's ear.
“I know that!” She whispered back, “Just don't look back. Keep walking, and fast.”

“Selina we have to turn down that street and then my house is just a block away.” he pointed to the next street they were quickly approaching.

“No, we gotta lose him first.” With her unnaturally sharp sense of hearing Selina heard the man's footsteps start to rapidly speed up after them and began to speed walk even faster, “Get ready to run.” She whispered into Jonathan's ear.

“We should just run now!” Jonathan whispered back, his voice tight like he was hyperventilating.

“No.” Jonathan trusted Selina but this creepy man was now putting that trust through a test. Since Selina seemed so calm in the situation, her face remained solid and expressionless, he decided to let her control their fate. Selina listened to the sound of the man's footsteps drawing closer and closer. She now had a plan , if she could just get the timing right she was almost sure they would get out of this without a scratch on their bodies. By the way he was quickly gaining on them while remaining quite she knew his first move would be to try and grab them. Jonathan's anxiety grew with every breath, and every sound, he could now here the man getting very cloes behind them and was wondering what exactly Selina was thinking. How could they possibly escape with him about to rob them of the rest of their life?!
