The night before had completely worn out her brain. All she wanted to do was stay home with her cats and think about everything that had gone down. It just didn't seem right to not think about the masked man that had tried to ruin her fun. And that diamond, oh how beautiful it looked hidden in her jewelry trunk. She was running late, distracting thoughts keeping her from performing the simplest of tasks at a regular pace. She was rushing to remove her curlers from her hair when she looked at the clock, seven-twenty nine! She was supposed to be in Shrek's office with coffee in hand in six minutes. I can make it. She forgot about her hair and grabbed her coat, as she tied the coat around her she was slipping on her black heels. Keys, wallet, phone, all shoved in her pockets as she raced out the door. When she made it out of her building it was 7:32. She frantically began to whistle and wave for a cab, that was another minute in itself. "Where to?" the cab driver asked.
"I'm headed to Shrek's Tower, but on the way we are hitting a Joe's Donuts. And fast."
"Whatever you say, lady." As they pulled up to the office building she had just finished taking out her last curler which she shoved into her purse with all the others. She threw fifteen dollars through the front window and practically ran out of the car and through the glass doors. She was already picturing her punishment for being late, her trainee probably pissed at the new and late intern. Selina was at her desk at 7:45, promptly ten minutes late. I'll say it was the traffic, no big deal. But it was a big deal, well at least to Shrek. He wasn't ever exactly kind to his workers, everything was said with an attitude. Yet Selina believed with her being new and still interning that there was hope for him to like her and maybe even give her a position working for him. He was waiting for her when she entered his office.
Selina smiled, "Good morning, Mr. Shrek."
His face remained stern, "Good morning, Ms. Kyle." His hand gestured to the empty tray beside him, "Well it's certainly not as good a morning as I would have liked it to be."
"I have your coffee right here, from Joe's-don't worry bout it, it's on me." She placed the styrofoam cup on the tray, "Oh, and this." She pulled out a paper bag from her purse, "It's a vanilla donut."
She patiently waited for him to say 'thank you' or smile but he completely disregarded her nice gesture, "Check if there's any mail for me downstairs and then come back up here I need you to help me organize my folders for a presentation on Thursday."
"Okay." Some ray of sunshine.
It was one thirty and the day was dragging. Shrek had left the office to have a meal while Selina was left to organize the day's accounting info with Shrek's secretary. She had been training Selina for a few weeks now. She was an older woman, probably almost sixty, thin and short with brown hair. The occasional grey hair peering out of the bun that always sat on top of her head. Her name was Kayleen Hill, but only answered to Mrs. Hill. She was a strict and quiet woman who claimed to be unable to talk and work efficiently. Probably never had fun a day in her life. She was everything Selina didn't want to become, and yet she was after her job. She must be leaving, why else would Selina be interning as a secretary. Mrs. Hill had been handing Selina all kinds of important files for her to organize as Mrs. Hill was stamping them. This routine was driving her mad.
"So...Mrs.Hill," Selina's voice made the woman twitch, "does Mr. Shrek ever smile?"
"That shouldn't be your biggest concern. You should be worried about the big meeting."
"Big meeting?" Finally something this woman could talk about.
"Do you check your emails Ms. Kyle?"
