He smiled at her, he was adorable, but Selina tried not to notice that. She was surprised to have him approach her but didn't let it show- not even a bit.

"I'm surprised to see you here." Bruce said.

"I would say I'm surprised to see you too, but I'm not." Selina smirked. She knew how to play it cool.

"Do you get invited every year?" Bruce asked, he seemed confused but still happy to see her.

"No." Selina didn't feel the need to say more, she had to keep things interesting.

"Oh." He seemed thrown off by her missing explanation. "Well it's good to see people my age here, these parties can grow tedious when you're the only adolescent here."

His broad vocabulary was throwing Selina off, "Yeah. You come here alone?" She asked nonchalantly.

"No, I came with my butler, Alfred. He's over there." Bruce pointed toward the dessert table where a well-dressed, middle-aged man was looking over the dessert table.

"Nice, I came with Jonathan." She pulled Jonathan by the arm closer to them so that he was engaged in the conversation.

        "Hi." Jonathan said dryly.

"Its nice to meet you, Jonathan." Bruce held out his hand for Jonathan to shake it.

"We've met before." Jonathan said in a stern voice.

"Oh, we have?" Bruce didn't exactly find the boy familiar.

"We have five out of our seven classes together...but you wouldn't notice the 'poor people'."

Selina didn't expect Jonathan to respond this way and shot him a "What are you doing?" look out of the corner of her eye.

"No no, it's not like that at all," Bruce started with a slight nervous edge to his voice and then cleared his throat, "I meet so many people in a day it's often hard to recall familiar faces." He then gave Jonathan a reassuring smile.

"Yeah." Jonathan's expression was hard and serious. He looked Bruce up and down and rolled his eyes.

Selina was afraid Jonathan might scare Bruce away and she quickly jumped back into the conversation with, "Are you enjoying yourself?"

"I am, I was actually wondering if I could have a word with you..." Bruce looked from her to Jonathan and Selina got the message.

She was hesitant at first, even though she had feelings for him she didn't exactly trust him, Selina never didn't trust anyone with anything right away.

"Jonathan, I'll be right back, Bruce and I are going to have a quick chat."

Jonathan rolled his eyes and looked Selina in the eyes, the anger raged in his eyes like blue fire, "Fine. I had to go to the restroom anyway." He quickly turned his back to her and walked off fearing she would ditch him for the rest of the night, his paranoia making him believe Selina was going to leave the party without him, that for the rest of the night he would be once again...alone.

Bruce led Selina up the stairs to the balcony where it wasn't as loud. Selina heard her heart began to pound in her chest and took a deep breath, Don't get yourself carried away. Selina didn't believe in romance or love. This was a simple, stupid crush, and it would go away with a matter of time. In fact, she now told herself that this crush was merely fascination, nothing she wouldn't be able to live without. At such a young age the cruelty of the world had taken away the idea of a happy ending, life certainly wasn't a fairytale, and the stories of endless love she had heard were just stories. Stories that people invested their time in to take themselves out of reality and into daydreams. Selina had no time for daydreaming. She wasn't going to show him that she had what she called 'small feelings' for him, why should she if they were insignificant. Love, in the real world, is a game that people find fun to play. But like everything that is fun, it gets boring, when people are tired of playing that game they move on. It's just a game.
