Since the night when Wilmer confessed his feelings, Demi hasn’t seen him. There was neither the desire nor the reason to see each other. In the first months, Demi even hated him. He stole the colors from her world and she was hidden in the dark. Almost every single night she woke up shouting, because of the nightmares which she was having. Sometimes she thought that it was going to kill her.
But with each passing day everything looked differently and in the end she forgave him. She began to sleep calmly. Her world slowly regained its colors. She even tried dating new guys but failed. And then she decided that she doesn’t need a man in her life. She is strong enough to life alone. She can be happy without a man.
It was Valentine’s Day and, unfortunately, Demi was spending it alone. She was sitting in the café, scrolling down her phone unhappily. Although she was happy that she was single, for that moment she hated that. All the flowers, images, and romantic things made her depressed.
She sighed and put her phone on the table beside her cup of coffee. Then she looked around the café, and sighed again. There were so many couples around her and it made her feel sadder even more. Shaking her head, she turned back to the cup of coffee.
“Hi,” She heard a voice, the voice, which made her shiver a few months ago. She looked up from the cup and gasped. He couldn’t be there, could he?
“Wilmer,” She squealed and almost jumped from her seat but her broken leg didn’t let her. She hissed but it didn’t stop her from wrapping her hands around Wilmer tightly. She hugged him as tight as she could, and Wilmer did the same, pressing her to his chest.
For a few minutes they held each other without saying a word. Everything what they went through dealing with their feelings for each other were rewarded by one hug. It was the best thing which happened to them in months.
“Careful with your leg,” Wilmer said as they pulled away and Demi rolled her eyes at him. She slowly sat into her previous position and Wilmer sat beside her with a huge smile on his face. He felt so happy to see her again; in fact, he was sure that Demi wanted to do nothing with him after what had happened between them but turns out that Demi left everything in the past.
“What are you doing here?” Demi asked after a few moments of silence.
“Well, I’m a single man and it’s Valentine ’s Day, so I am probably doing to get drunk,” He replied, making Demi giggle. Wilmer smiled even more ( if it possible, of course) because he missed her cute giggles as much as he missed everything else about her.
“Cool, I’m single too. Let’s get drunk together,” Demi giggled again. She looked up to the handsome man sitting beside her and understood: everything what she felt was in the past. Maybe somewhere deep in the heart was a little spark but that time it wasn’t going to stop her from being his best friend.
“Oh, really?” Wilmer raised an eyebrow, making Demi giggle. “You know it would be better if we watch a romantic movie. You would be crying, I would laugh at how sensitive you are and everything would be like before.”
“I…” Demi started but she wasn’t able to say anything. It seemed like all the words suddenly left her head. It wasn’t a good time to bring back what happened in the past. She wasn’t ready to go back but she couldn’t hide it either. “I guess… We can try.” She finally said and looked down at her hands. “It was hard but everything is in the past, and right now I’m sure we can be friends like before.”
“So, friends?” Wilmer stretched his hand out for her but Demi shook her head.
“No.” She giggled at Wilmer’s wide eyes, “We’re besties.” She added and instead shaking hands, she wrapped her hands tightly around his neck again. As soon as Wilmer’s hands were wrapped around her waist again, she relaxed. She had missed his hugs more than she had thought.
After a few minutes of being into each other’s arms, they pulled away. Demi couldn’t help but giggled: almost half a year she spent hating him, crying every single night because he wasn’t there and right now she was with him and had no feelings for him.
At that moment she began to doubt, that maybe true love doesn’t even exist. She was sure that it was true love because she had never felt something like that before but how could that true love just disappear? That she didn’t understand. Or maybe wasn’t ready to understand.
“Let’s make a photo,” Wilmer’s voice made her come back to reality. She nodded her head smiling and turned to the woman, who was sitting at the table near them.
“Can you take a photo of us?” Demi asked and the woman immediately agreed.
Demi handed her the phone and looked at Wilmer, who was staring at her with a smile on his face. He wrapped his hand around Demi’s lower back and pulled her closer. They both smiled at the camera and the woman took a photo.
“Thank you,” Demi and Wilmer said at the same time. Demi couldn’t help but started giggling again: They were like made for each other.
“So, my best friend, what are we going to do now?” Demi asked as she finally managed to stop giggling. Truth be told, she didn’t understand why she was giggling so much. It was probably the effect that Wilmer was that close. After all, before all that drama, she was really happy with him.
“Well, we can watch a romantic movie as I suggested before or we can shot each pair with water gun,” He said, making Demi giggle again. “Okay, okay, let’s watch a horror movie then.” He said as Demi kept giggling.
“You know I miss your silly jokes and our time together.” Demi suddenly stated, becoming serious. She looked down at her hands again and sighed, “I wish I could turn back the time and never felt in love with you.”
“What happened, that happened. Demi, don’t look back. Leave everything in the past. We are starting a new page together; no more dramas, love stories or anything. We’re just best friends who have a story, okay? Don’t let it ruin our friendship.” Wilmer took Demi’s hand and squeezed it.
It’s already ruined, Demi whispered in her head but looked up from her hands and gave Wilmer a huge smile.
She was good at faking feelings.
