Please Don't Forget Me...
Chapter 12
(Daniels POV)
As the guys paced around the living room, texting and calling Sammy, trying to get through to her, I sat down on the couch and put my head in my hands. I closed my eyes, thoughts running through my brain. I so desperately wanted to tell them all that Sammy was pregnant but then again I know she doesn't want anyone to know her secret, and I would hate to feel like a betrayed her. I was torn. I didn't know what to do, how to act, what to say, it was all just one big mess, but in no way to I blame Sammy or Jack for this. It was just one of those things that you couldn't fix.
As I ran my fingers through my lightly tangled hair, Jacks phone suddenly dinged, indicating a text message. I immediately lifted my head and watched as Jacks hand shot into his pocket and out again. He was gripping his phone so tightly that I could see the veins popping out from underneath his skin. I looked around at the rest of the guys, they to were staring at Jack, impatiently waiting for a response.
Jacks eyes slowly widened as he clicked on his lock screen. I only heard one 'ding' so it had to be a single message. It took Jack a few seconds, but his eyes became extremely watery, and a really light shade of red. I didn't want to rush him so I didn't say anything but of course, being the impatient teenager that he is, Zach had to say something. "Is it Sammy?" He asked. Jacks face scrunched up, almost as if he had just sucked on a lemon. Tears rapidly started falling from his eyes, landing on his phone screen. Instantly I knew that this was bad, really bad. Well?" Zach said desperately. "Is it her?" We all watched as Jack breathed in deeply, and looked up into Zachs eyes, nodding quickly. Zach stepped forward a few steps so that he was next to him. Jack hesitated before passing the phone to Zach, the tears rolling off the phone, onto the hardwood floor. I watched as Jacks hand veins disappeared back into his skin. Zach took a few steps back and Jonah and Corbyn stood around him. Of course I was curious too, so I stood up from the couch and huddled around the phone, looking down at the lock screen with a message banner across the middle of the screen. I read the 3 words and 8 letters before returning back to my spot on the couch. Once again my head retuned to my hands and I sighed. "That's the last I'm going to hear of her, isn't it?" Jack whispered, staring at his hands as silent tears fell down his face. I didn't respond, none of us did because we knew that it was true. Sammy wasn't coming back. I felt sick in my stomach. I don't know weather it was the fact that I knew why she left, or that she wasn't coming back. Sammy was my best friend, I needed her.
I can't imagine how Jack must be feeling, and he has no idea what's happening to her.
Without making a sound, Jack got off the stool that he was sitting on and tucked it back under the counter. His head hung low not wanting to making eye contact with any of us. Jonah, Corbyn, Zach and I watched him slowly stomp up the stairs. I didn't know where he was going or what he was going to do. Once he was fully out of our view Zach turned and faced all of us.
"We need to find her!" He panicked. "Why didn't see tell us where she was?" Corbyn asked. "This isn't like her." Jonah added.
"She wouldn't just leave, not without saying goodbye to Jack."
My palms were so sweaty, this secret was eating me up inside. I knew that I was going to break. My lip started trembling and my breathing got fast and deep. "Uh Daniel, are you okay?" Corbyn asked. "I—I—she—she's"
Before I could say 'pregnant' my phone starting ringing, giving me the perfect excuse to step aside. I pulled the buzzing object out of my pocket and read the caller ID. 'Sammy.' I thought. "Is it Sammy!" Zach yelled.
My finger slide across the 'answer' button, and I held my phone to my ear.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey, it's me." Sammy replied. Corbyn, Zach and Jonah were all staring at me, waiting for me to tell them it was Sammy.
"Oh uh hey mom—" I stuttered, trying to play it off that my mother was on the other end of the call. I held my finger up to the guys, meaning 'stay here' . "yeah yeah I'm good how are you?" I said as I walked past the kitchen and out the glass doors, leading outside towards the pool.
"Sorry about that, where the hell are you?" I said, once I knew that no one was listening. "It's okay, I'm on a plane, I'm alright." Sammy whispered. "A plane?" I quietly yelled, sitting down on one of the big rocks in our backyard, overlooking Los Angeles. "Where to?" I asked. "I can't say, I don't want Jack to find me. Just know that I'll be safe." She responded. I let out a sad sigh before speaking. "Sammy please come back, I know that this baby stuff is tough to go through, but Jack will understand, we all will understand, just please come back, you have no idea how Jack reacted to your letter, he cried Sammy, cried. Jack never cries. He's going to go crazy without you, you're scaring him half to death, me too." I said, my voice shaky. I could tell my eyes were glossy.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She whispered, her voice breaking. Hearing her apologise made me feel even sicker. This wasn't her fault.
"It's just, I have to do this on my own, I promise I'll keep you updated, but you can't tell anyone, especially not Jack." She continued.
"Your secret is safe with me." I replied, although this was going to be an extremely hard secret to keep. "Thankyou. I-I have to go, I love you, and I'll talk to you soon." She sniffled, talking fast. "I love you too—" I said. "and so does Jack. Call me if you need anything, I mean anything." I pleaded.
"I will, thankyou Daniel."
"Stay safe S."
"You too."
The call ended and I stared at her contact on my screen. I raised my head and looked out into the sky. She was out there, somewhere.
I just hope she stays safe....
