Chapter 26

Chase’s POV

“Well I’ll see you later, I’m have to go meet up with Clyde. Time for a history lesson. This is going to be fun,” she said sarcastically, not looking happy at all. “Even worse he forbids me to have the class outside today, so I’ll be in some stuffy room.”

“Why won’t it be in the garden?” Chase asked.

“He says that a thunderstorm looks like it’s on its way. But looking outside, there is not a cloud in sight.”

I smiled, “Well, enjoy.”

She glared at me. “You sure you don’t want to come with?”

“I’ll pass,” I said I hated those classes with her history teacher much more than she did. Luckily I could get out of it though.

“Fine, see ya in about an hour.” She said in a defeated voice, I nodded and watched her walk off.

As I was walking down the hall a maid came around the corner and walked up to me.  With her head bowed she whispered, “Princess Alyssa told me to tell you to meet her in the gardens, she said she had something to show you before her lessons.”  Then she quickly scampered away.

I was confused.  If she had something to tell me then why didn’t she just a few minutes ago?  I hastily brushed that worry away, knowing Alyssa she probably had forgotten to tell me when we were talking earlier.  It’s not the first time she has forgotten something.

I swiftly made my way to the door that led to the garden and walked out.  I walked over to our usual spot, the stone bench and searched around for the familiar blonde head.  Not being able to spot her I yelled, “Alyssa?” Where was she? The maid did say to meet her in the gardens didn’t she? I’m pretty sure she did.

Receiving no answer I furrowed my eyebrows in irritation and sat on the bench.  I rested my head on my hand and decided to wait for her to show up.  That’s when I heard the all too familiar hiss of an arrow cutting through air.  I snapped my head to the side to locate it, but to no avail.  I quickly stood up planning on running, just to be safe, when a gut retching  pain pierced my stomach.  I looked down to see an arrow firmly rested in my abdomen and cursed myself for not seeing it coming. I reached down to pull it out when I heard yet another hiss.  This time it was coming from behind, but I wasn’t fast enough to grab it and it smoothly cut into my thigh.  Before I had time to recover two strong hands came from behind, grabbed my arms and pulled them behind my back.  I snarled, a vicious animal like snarl, and tried to pull away. Vampire, I thought, no human would be able to hold out against my strength, even in my current state.  My attacker was strong, probably doped up on blood, and I was weak from the arrows, so I was still locked in their grasp.  My hands were shackled behind me and I tried once again to yank out of the grip of my attacker and once again failed.  So far I hadn’t been able to see my attacker to be able to give him a name, if it was a him.  I snapped my head around to see the vampire, but all I saw was a black hood that covered their face. This was the mystery woman we have been hearing about.

“Alyssa!” I yelled.  I had to let her know what was happening. Maybe the vampire would be scared off if she came out here. The vampire has made herself scarce, not letting Alyssa or I to see her.

“She comes out here she dies.” My attacker warned and tightened her grip on my arms.   The voice was decidedly one of a woman, but nonetheless I got the hint and shut up.  There was no way I was going to put Alyssa in danger.

“That’s a good boy,” she said patronizingly, “Now let’s go.” She started pushing me out of the garden towards an awaiting wagon with guards sitting in it. I tried pulling out of her grasp, but she had a vice-like grip. She practically lifted me onto the wagon and kicked my legs out from under me, making me fall to the floor. The whole time she kept that grip on my arm as if it was her lifeline. Then the wagon started moving with a jerk towards the line of trees off in the distance.
