Chapter 27

Alyssa’s POV

I looked everywhere, I checked the dungeons to see if he was there. I went riding for hours around the property, and came up with nothing. It has been a day since Chase has been gone, and I was starting to get extremely worried. The guards have found nothing, and my father ordered to put up signs around the nearby towns with a reward to everyone that could tell us anything.

I didn’t believe he had ran away. Believing it would be like giving up hope. I didn’t have enough hope to give up. My heart ached, I missed him, and I had my first nightmare in years last night. I came screaming awake in the middle of the night, and I wasn’t able to sleep after that. I was exhausted, but was determined not to give up. I kept a good eye on my father to make sure he didn’t sneak off.  So far he hasn’t tried.

Anytime my father was around, I acted sad, as if I believed his story. I didn’t, but sometimes I had my doubts, which I quickly got rid of. Until I had proof, I wouldn’t believe it. It was as simple as that.

I walked back out to the stables, time for another ride. I was starting to doubt that my father was keeping Chase held here on the property. But then again, we owned a lot of land that was covered by trees. If I didn’t find any signs of him here in the next couple of days than I would start looking for him in the nearby towns. I was determined to find him. I had to find him. If he was hurt, or killed, I would never forgive myself. It would be my fault for telling him the secret that got him killed.

I got on my horse and rode out of the stables. I rode farther than before, and still no luck. It was nice to just ride though. Even if I couldn’t fully enjoy it without Chase laughing by my side. I rode deeper into the forest and came to the part where it got really thick. I tied my horse’s reins to a branch and started to shove my way through.

It was slow work. I had barely gotten very far in the hour that had passed. I turned around, deciding it was too late to go any farther. I made my way back to my horse and returned to the castle.

I looked out the window, dark already. Time for bed, hopefully I could get a good night’s rest, though I doubted it. Nothing had come up again. It was like he disappeared. My father was still playing his act perfectly.

Chase’s POV

It has been two nights here in this cold stone place. It was morning now, I could tell from my inner clock, and so far I have had no visitors.

I waited and waited. I wondered what Alyssa was doing. Was she even worried that I was gone? Was she looking for me? Or had she believed the story that her father had came up with to tell her as an excuse for my absence?

I was hungry. My throat felt dry and my fangs ached for human blood. Vampires can only last so long without it before we die off. I wondered if anyone was going to come, maybe bring blood with them.

My back and arms hurt, for being in one position this whole entire time. The wounds from the arrows had healed, just like I knew they would.

I sat facing the door and kept my ears pricked for any noise. So far none and I was starting to wonder if they had forgotten about me. Though that was highly unlikely.

I got up and stretched and walked around the ten by ten room. I stretched my legs, they had started to feel a little stiff. I started pacing the room. I pulled at the chains hoping they would break. No luck. I tried to reach the door. No luck, I got about four feet away before I ran up short.
