Freida was in possession.
She kicks, and though Rubye receives it, Jorge quickly stole it and ran towards the goal. Andrea from Cangrejo blocks, and Jorge quickly turns 180° and passes to Ann.
Once everyone started to crowd around her, she passed again to Joycelin. She, Jorge, and Rosalind kept passing to each other every time someone tried to block, occasionally passing back to the midfielders, and sometimes accidentally passing to a Cangrejo only for Ann, Rica, or a striker to quickly snatch it back.
They were moving forward — literally — with that strategy for quite a while. Then...
Ann is in possession. She kicks into the goal only for it to bounce off the goalpost and fly out of bounds.
"Left corner kick," says Coach Caesar. Rubye takes the ball and sets it on the left hand corner.
Ann goes man-to-man with Freida. Rubye kicks, and Aaliyah receives, then passes to Rica. With her close position to the goal, she kicks past the goalkeeper, Diane.
"C! R-U-C! I-F-I! J---O! CRU-CI-FI-JO!"
"High five!" Joycelin shouts. She and Rica high-five, and Ann and Jorge follow.
Then, they return to their positions.
"Woo, I'm hyped," says Ann.
Coach Caesar blows his whistle once more.
The Crucifijo team advances once again to the Cangrejo turf; Though Rubye kicks off, Jorge steals and passes. With Rosalind in possession, Gwen on Cangrejo's defensive lane quickly steals back the ball and passes to Rubye. The strikers and midfielders of Crucifijo chase after her and Freida, both passing to each other every time someone got close. Then, Rubye kicks, but Sofia successfully catches.
"You go girl," Rosalind cheers.
Just like in the throw-in, everyone tries to go man-to-man with players from the other team. Sofia throws overhead as hard as she can, and Ann receives it from in front of the wall. She makes a dash for the Cangrejo goal.
"Here!" Jorge shouts. Ann passes. Jorge shoots, but it hits the side of the goalpost and bounces off the wired fence around the field.
"Right corner kick?" asks Joycelin.
"I think so," says Jorge. "Man-to-man, everyone!"
Ann tries blocking near the goal. Then, Rubye kicks. Aaliyah receives and turns toward Rica, but Paula (once again Cangrejo) steals and passes, only for the ball to bounce off and enter their own goal.
"C! R-U-C! I-F-I! J---O! CRU-CI-FI-JO!"
"What's the score now?" asks Mrs. Johansson, a Cangrejo house master.
"2 - 0," Mr. Fischer replies. "We have two points, and you have none."
"Don't underestimate Casa de Cangrejo!" Mrs. Johansson replies. "We're the killers of SportsFest, and our colour is blood red. We've got many other sports to beat you in. And, remember, this is only the first half."
"And we'll be scoring more points," Taniya added.
"Like what, volleyball?" Orelya asks.
"Well, just so you know, Mrs. Johansson, your daughter Marie is a Crucifijo and she's playing right now."
"C! R-U-C! I-F-I! J-O! CRU-CI-FI-JO!" Chieli and Taniya cheer.
Freida kicks off. Rosalind immediately steals, and passes to Jorge, who passes to Joycelin. Suddenly, Coach Caesar blows his whistle. "Girls, it is now half time! Everyone, off the field!"
"We got two points on the first half," says Rica. "Good game."
"Whaddaya mean, G-G? We ain't the losers of this game and it ain't the end yet. As much as possible, we must let the ball shoot out of bounds," replies Ann. "Because we just so happen to be getting points that way."
"It sounds like you're talking about basketball," comments Taniya.
"Well, whatever," responds Ann, taking another gulp of her Jatorade.
"Excellent work, team!" applauds Jorge. "We've gotta keep this performance up in the second half! Is anyone slightly injured or dizzy? No one? Excellent."
"Do we focus on scoring more points, or do we focus on making sure the Cangrejo don't score?" asks Aaliyah.
"Both," answers Jorge. "Possession is the key here. If you have an opportunity to steal the ball, then do it, no matter what your position is — JUST DO IT, okay? If you're a striker or midfielder, advance with the ball! Or if you're defending, pass it to us! And remember, mids, you all have extra weights to carry. When we're in possession, you're strikers. When Cangrejo has the ball, you're defenders."
"Got it," affirms Ann, once again sipping Jatorade.
Coach Caesar blows his whistle.
"Team?" says Jorge.
"C! R-U-C! I-F-I! J---O! CRU-CI-FI-JO!"
