•E/C: Eye Color
Your POV:
It has been two days since Saros confessed his backstory to me. In all honesty, I expected things to be awkward between me and the villain after that, but, although most of our encounters were spent silently reading in each other's presence, there was something comfortable about it. We would eat together as well, sometimes engaging in light conversation, but I did notice how he'd sometimes stare at me as if he were pondering something. I don't really mind, though. I turn in bed for probably the sixth time now before giving a light groan. I woke up and, sadly, can't seem to fall back asleep. I open my eyes in defeat and squint to see the time on the small clock stationed on the shelf through the darkness.
'Two twenty. Fuuuuuuuu...' I sit up slowly to avoid hitting my head and rub my eyes. I then notice the figure of my captor staring out the window at the twinkling stars littering the navy sky with his chin resting on the palm of his hand. I hum softly while spying at him from the bottom bunk. He seems deep in thought.
'Maybe he couldn't sleep either?' I nearly flinch when he turns his head and meets my eyes. Guess I've been caught.
"Why are you up?" He asks curiously in a sleepy voice, which took me a little by surprise. He sounds very tired. I turn so that my legs stick out and plant my feet on the floor.
"I can't fall back asleep," I explain. Saros gives a small hum in understanding before returning his attention to the sky. The sight of the most terrifying villain ever to attack the city stargazing with half lidded eyes is probably the most interesting thing I've ever witnessed in my life and is oddly adorable in its own strange sort of way.
"Me neither."
I take note of his fingers, which start to tap the spot next to him on the cushioned bench, like he was silently calling me over to sit there, but I'm not completely sure if that's the case. Maybe he just feels like tapping? Deciding to take the risk, I come out of bed and walk up to the man before sitting beside him. I'm sure to mind my distance as he sets his hand back on his lap, so he has some space to himself. His icy orbs flick towards me before going back to the stars. I follow his lead and look outside as well at the empty field of tall grass surrounding the villain's lair. The view above, however, is much more breathtaking. Due to having lived in the city my entire life, I've never gotten the chance to experience the night sky like this. So many more stars are now visible without any of the blinding lights of the enormous buildings and houses. It's like I can see for miles.
"They're so pretty out here," I say to myself in wonder, my heart feeling somewhat light in my chest. From the corner of my eye, I swear I see Saros smile, but it only lasted for a few moments.
"They are, aren't they? It's one of my favorite things about this place. This room has the best view of them too." He turns to face me, and I do the same thing. He seems a little more awake now that I've joined him, but his voice is still a little low. "I've been wondering, how come you haven't tried to run?"
"What?"
"Well, most of my prisoners have tried to escape at least once by now. You've had plenty of opportunities, especially being kept here rather than a cell." My laugh surprises him as I look back outside.
"Come on, I'm not that stupid. I know exactly what you're capable of, so if I got caught, I don't even want to know what the consequences would be. Not to mention, I'm outnumbered. Getting through your men would be too difficult for me. Even if I did somehow managed to get outside, there's no way I can walk that long to reach the city without being caught. I get tired just thinking about it." Saros seems impressed and gives a light chuckle at my response.
"You know, you've been the only one to think that far ahead. I'm surprised. You're very smart." I smile at the compliment while facing him yet again. However, his smile falters as he stares at me, causing mine to fall soon after as I tilt my head a bit to the left in confusion. Why the sudden change?
"The plan starts tomorrow."
"Plan? You mean..." I gulp nervously. Seems the time has come for me to fulfill my purpose here. Can't say I'm thrilled to be used as bait, but it was inevitably going to happen.
'Why does he want to talk about this? I figured he'd just keep it secret and do whatever.'
"I'm going to take you to the top of Gambren's Tower. Herald will come for you, and I'll continue from there," he explains briefly in a soft voice. I gulp fearfully, and I'm sure he noticed. Gambren's Towers is the tallest building in the city. I'm not that afraid of heights, but I do have limits. To go up that high will be terrifying. "I will make sure you're not hurt," he adds in a low whisper, but I was able to hear him clearly. My E/C orbs grow wide in shock as I stare at the man who avoids my gaze. He instead looks out the window to admire the stars again with a blank expression on his face.
'Why would he care to keep me safe?' I then notice the white specks on his face glowing brightly in the dark patches of his skin. They are brighter than the stars themselves. Is he blushing? If so, it's very prominent right now.
"My fight is not with you. I will make sure you'll live at the very least," he assures, sounding completely genuine. I can feel my heart start to pound faster and louder than usual as heat rises to my cheeks, and I think I know why. He showed me a completely different side that no one has ever known, and, now, I'm gathering that he truly cares about me surviving this, likely treacherous, plan of his.
"What exactly are you going to do?"
A small, almost forced, smile appears on his lips, filling me with concern.
"Don't worry about it. You'll find out the rest tomorrow. There isn't much I need you to do. Will you be compliant?"
"Yeah. I don't plan on giving you any trouble."
"Good." He watches as I rub my tired eyes and lets out a small yawn, which he hides with his hand. Moments later, his eyes flutter shut as he leans his head against the window. "Then you should be fine."
A few minutes pass of me sitting there before his breaths become slow and steady. He must've fallen asleep. I still sit here, though, watching the sky to find any constellations I can remember. It was the only thing I could think of to keep my mind from worrying about what will happen tomorrow. However, at times, my eyes would wander to the unconscious male beside me. Each time I snuck a glance, my heart would start to beat faster. This feeling I have in my stomach really shouldn't be there. It's light and fluttery, like butterflies, but why am I feeling this while in his presence? I'm not stupid; I know what it means, but for him? He's a dangerous criminal, not to mention my kidnapper.
'He has been nice, though. Perhaps that's why? Ugh! Why me?' I turn to look at him once more and hesitate to scoot closer to his side. My heart seemed like it was about to jump out of my chest, and it was then that I knew for sure what was going on with me. Cautiously, I lean against him, starting by gradually putting a little weight before completely relying on his body to keep me up. He's out cold. His warmth, though, is so soothing and strangely makes me feel safe. It made my cheeks burn.
'I can't believe I'm doing this. What am I thinking?' And, yet, I make no motion to move away. Eventually, I close my eyes and fall asleep against my captor, not caring for what sort of reaction he might have to this position in the morning if he wakes up before me.
'How strange? I don't actually want to leave.'
