I go straight up the stairs and bump into my dad. He's still in his Pj's. Is this his lazy day or?
"You're mum's in a mood with me." He says in a voice like he's just woken up. It's almost four in the afternoon!
"Isn't she always?" I say.
"I guess that's just about right." He smiles weakly.
"So what did you do now?" I ask. He's always done something it seems. Which actually I guess is about right.
His smile fades. "I came back drunk late last night."
"Late last night or early this morning?" I ask giving him a sideways look.
"Okay morning."
"Would explain why your in your pj's."
"Well this hangover's nearly gone."
"Good for you!" I say smiling and going into my bedroom, closing the door softly behind me.
I love my dad I really do. Well he is my dad and all. He's a good person really he has just made mistakes. Well he still does in my mum's eyes. I just wish he didn't drink so much but I'm used to it. I really don't like what happened between him and my mum though. It's changed their relationship but they still stay together. They love each other. I know they do. They just struggle showing it these days.
I go into my wardrobe and take out my jodhpurs and a clean loose top. I get changed into in and apply new deodorant and body spray. I then go downstairs and into the cupboard by the door, where I get out my riding boots, helmet and body protecter. Once I've got them on I make my way to the stables where I saddle up Emily. This is what I wait for and look foreword to all day. This is what helps me through school and hard family times.
I get onto Emily, and pretend not to hear my mother shouting something un-audible at my father, as I make Emily walk out into the woods.
